MIB.11: proper instrument basics and playing procedure

How did the teacher accomplish her/his objectives?

• Sat with the class and showed them the rhythms aurally and then with notation
• Call and response signing in solfege

How did the teacher assess individual students’ understanding?

• During one of the games, students had to sing alone

• She could ask random students to sing something for her
• She would go around and talk to people one on one if she thought they could use some
help

• She knows everyone’s name

• She keeps a good attitude during class
 • She could relate material to the lives of the students

• They can sit or stand based on their preference

• They have opportunities to try different activities

• Especially on a Friday, they were pretty energetic

• Some students would talk out of turn as a distraction to others.

this classroom?

• Have all students sit or all students stand

• Make sure everyone knows what’s going to be done at the beginning of class.

What action(s) on the part of the students do you think would improve student learning in
this classroom?

• Try to stay focused on what is going on in the present

• Not get so carried away on any tangents
