Lesson plan

Unit: 11- I never go straight home


Lesson: Present simple- Adverbs of frequency
Topic: Daily routines
Time: 50 min
Skills: listening, speaking, reading, writing.
Aims: By the end of the lesson students will be able to:
-use correctly some of the basic adverbs of frequency;
-familiarize with some phrases related to daily routines;
-talk about their daily routine in a general way.
General competences:
1. Receiving oral messages.
2. Producing oral messages.
3. Receiving written messages.
4. Producing written messages.
Specific competences: 1.1, 1.2, 2.2, 2.3, 3.3, 4.1, 4.3.
Teaching techniques: conversation, description, exercise.
Teaching aids: notebooks, board, markers, worksheet, pictures, computer, video materials, video
projector.
Organization: lockstep, individual work.
Anticipated problems: Some of the Ss may have difficulties in understanding some words or
explanations. In order to solve that the teacher will translate and give extra explanation whenever
it is necessary.
1. Warming-up
Teacher enters the classroom, greets students and they greet teacher back. Teacher asks for the
absentees and the student on duty names the absentees if necessary. As well teacher asks students
how they feel and if they are prepared for the new lesson.

2. Review of the previous knowledge

Teacher checks homework and corrects mistakes if necessary. Students correct the mistakes in
their notebooks. Students had to solve ex. 2a). p. 65 (in the book).

3. Introducing the new lesson to be taught
In order to introduce the new lesson teacher plays a video. Students watch the video carefully.
After that teacher asks them which are the key words presented in the video that indicate the
possible content of the lesson. Students share their opinions.

Time: 4 min

ACTIVITY 1
Aims:
-to identify adverbs of frequency and their meanings;
-to introduce the adverbs in suitable examples;
-to make some rules concerning their place in a sentence;
Interaction: T-Ss; Ss-T.
Time: 10 min
Procedures: Teacher writes on the board the date and the title of the lesson. After that teacher
makes a scheme including the five adverbs in discussion that will help students better understand
their use. After finishing the scheme teacher writes on the board an example for each of the
adverbs above and gives some explanations concerning the place of the adverbs in a sentence.
Students take notes.

ACTIVITY 2
Aims:
-to improve students vocabulary with phrases describing daily routines;
-to match phrases with pictures;
-to make their examples using adverbs and the new phrases.
Interaction: T-Ss; Ss-T.

Time: 9 min
Procedures: As to improve students’ vocabulary with daily routines phrases, teacher puts a
poster on the board with some pictures and asks students to match them with the phrases.
Students come to the board and solve the task. Then teacher asks students to make two examples
using adverbs and the phrases. Students read their sentences.

ACTIVITY 3
Aims:
-to practice the use of adverbs of frequency with daily routines;
Interaction: T-Ss; Ss-T.
Time: 15 min
Procedures: Teacher gives a worksheet with different types of exercises to each student so that
they practice. Students now work individually. As the first and the second exercise are based on
the video watched earlier, teacher plays the video again asking students to watch it carefully and
to be attentive at details. Teacher explains the tasks. Students solve exercises one by one and
after finishing they come to the board and complete the answers on the poster. Teacher offers
guidance whenever the students need.
Feed back: Teacher provides continuous feed back through observations during the lesson.
Teacher checks that the students complete the tasks entirely and correctly at any stage of the
lesson, gives extra explanations whenever necessary.
Evaluation: oral practice and evaluation, systematic observation, worksheet. At the end of the
lesson teacher asks the students to rate their progress through the lesson as it follows: Excellent,
Good, Ok, Can do better.
Homework: Teacher announces homework: students will have to make a short composition in
which to talk about their daily routine using the items learnt in the lesson.
Ending lesson
Teacher greets students and they greet back.
