Engagement
Do you remember what we did last week? Good bridge from last week’s lesson to this
week’s using the following activity. Nice introduction to the day’s topic using starter
conversation questions in the envelope poster. Students discussed the question in their
groups and then the responses to the questions were reviewed in plenary.
The teacher then said that she would focus on 3 types of habitats : artic, desert, and
rainforest
Exploration
Students watched a video about the adaptations in each area and then responded to
comprehension level questions.
Students were asked to make a diorama featuring information about an assigned habitat. This is a
very fun activity that needed greater direction. Some things that you might want to think about
include:
1. Making the diorama templates before hand
2. Using the Diorama template as a worksheet so that students would use the books, extract
the relevant information from the book, and draw the picture. They would need to be told
what to extract e.g. the same information that you asked on the ppt. (the definition of the
habitat and which animals live there)
3. Students would then only need to assemble the diorama after.
Explanation
The video could have been recycled here to tie up the lesson.
Elaboration
You could have linked it to what would come next.
Evaluation
Generally
 Good planning
 Very good quality and relevant resources
 An extremely good idea that needed to be thought through more strongly. That is,
when planning always consider how the children will react.

Areas for development:

Focus for next lesson:
Develop a classroom conversation between you and the children using your questioning
and by getting more involved with the students responses.
Continue to develop your classroom talk, be brave, confident and engage your students in a
conversation. You tend to ask them a question, get an answer and then move on. There is no
engagement by you with the response of the student.
