INTRODUCTION

Expectations for Learning and Behaviour: Notes

Students will treat materials with respect and will not throw them around or lose
them. Students will try their hardest and stay focused during the lesson.

Attention Grabber: Notes

Let’s play a game! An estimation game! We’ve played a similar one before,
where I flashed a number of reindeer or Santa hats on the smartboard and you
had to try and estimate how many you saw- this time, we know more about
estimation, so you have an advantage!

Handing out whiteboards, playing game- flashing a number of objects on the

screen for a few seconds, and then each student has to make a guess (on their
whiteboard) on how many they estimated to be on the board.

Assessment of Prior Knowledge: Notes

Miss Keira Nelson

How much have students retained about estimating? How well can they estimate
so far?

Transition to Body: Notes

Guesstimation Stations- time to flex our estimation bone a bit more!

BODY

Learning Activity #1 - Estimation Stations Notes

Visual of how to do the recording- example on the whiteboard/Smartboard

10 stations spread throughout the room- students will have 7 seconds to lift the
bowl, check the contents, and then make their estimate before they have to
cover the contents again. This will also keep the kids moving on a solid
schedule/routine between the stations as well.
Students will record what they estimated and what they counted on their sheet.

Assessments/Differentiation #1 Notes

Are students understanding what to do at the stations? Can they follow along?
