klīṁ huṁ mātaṅgyai phaṭ svāhā ǀ
hrīṁ : Māyā, Sakti bīja; creator of the entire material world by this sound
klīṁ : Kamā bīja, invoke the fire (of agni bīja), fulfills all desires
huṁ : damana bīja- supressionof all evils and problems (Rāhu runs away)
mā : Mother bīja
taṁ : gives the power to attract, people will come to you, accomplisher of things capable of achieving all
perfections (sarva siddhi) in combination with Saraswatī bīja.
yai/ya : Vāyu bīja, peace giver, prostration
ai : Saraswatī bīja, giver of vidyā (knowledge) and siddhi (perfection), origin of Jala bīja (from here the water
starts flowing-creation, creative energy), ends enmity
ya + ai = yai : Vidyā and siddhi for the purpose of peace
mātaṅgyai: Attracting the Mother for knowledge and peace (Mataṅga means elephant, the person becomes as
powerful as an elephant).
phaṭ : astra bīja, invokes the power of the deity to protect, protects dharma
svā : self, atman, fire
hā : ākāśā bīja, the seed sound of space/ether tattva
svāhā : the wishes of the self taken to the skies, offered to the gods
Note on the ending of mantra :
svāhā: pull beads to you- asking for protection
phaṭ: if not using svāhā, push beads away from you- throwing weapon, destroying faults, pushing
mantra away from you
Syllable and Words:
Mataṅgi’s daśakṣari mantra has 7 words and 10 akṣaras. It takes the energy of the 7th (desire/partnership) to the
10th house of career/karma in this world. Mataṅga is an elephant, so it brings auspicious energy to ones work, as
well as fame and good name. It suppresses the negative aspects of the Sun, which are ego, and controlling nature.
It supports vitality, speech, and dhī (wisdom).

MANTRA RASI CHAKRA
This chakra is to see the compatibility of a devata’s name with an individual’s chart. The first letter
of the devata of a mantra is looked at in the chart in relation to the Janma lagna (the Moon sign). If
the first akshara (syllable) of the name is situated in trines (1,5,9) then the person will get siddhi from
the mantra. If the akshara falls into 6, 8, or 12 then the mantra should only be done with the advice of
the Guru, for it may have negative effects depending on the devata and the lineage of practice. Other
placements can be judged accordingly.
This chakra is not used very much in our parampara, but for very particular situations it is used to
check the suitability mantras.
This chakra was taught publicly by Sarbani Sakar at the 2004 SJC West Coast Conference.
Recordings are available through Laksmi Kary. Original chakra is from a Bengali book called Brihat
Tantrasara by Krsnanada Agamvagish.
HODA CHAKRA
Each nakshatra pada has one sound. The padas relates to the navamsas and are displayed here accordingly.
The vowel sounds are based on Krittika which starts with a, i, u, e, o. These vowels repeat in this order with the
addition of consonants. Each of the dual signs has an extra three aksharas included. Everything is written
according to Itrans 99 and pronounced accordingly.
There are two main varieties of this chakra, one with 27 nakshatras and one with 28 nakshatras. This is the 27
nakshatra/108 sound chakra. For those wishing to use the 28 scheme the additional aksharas have been added in
the center based on Vedic Remedies in Astrology by Sanjay Rath.
Respected authors have used both long and short vowels for the same placements. No place are they both used in
a way that would differentiate them between padas, therefore I have used all short vowels and allow the short
vowel to represent both. Any question regarding this aspect should be discussed with understanding of pancha
svara dasa, where only a, i, u, e, and o are used as root vowels.
There are various sources (best being Phaladeepika) that have a slight variation of the exact syllables. I have tried
to stay along the lines of BV Raman. One’s best judgment is advised, as aksharas vary depending on source. The
most questionable aksharas are put in italics for known variability, this are mostly the additional aksharas added
in the dual signs.

MAYA. THIS GIVES US THE IDENTITY AND INDIVIDUALITY. W HENEVER ANYONE CALLS WITH THAT NAME, IT FILLS UP HIS MIND WITH
SOME VERY UNIQUE PERCEPTIONS REGARDING OUR SELVES. THE PERCEPTIONS ARE VERY SUBJECTIVE AND VERY UNIQUE AND
THE PERSONS NEAR US INTERACT WITH US IN A VERY SPECIFIC WAY. THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE THAT, A PERSON MIGHT
HAVE MORE THAN ONE NAME IN THE HOME, AMONG FRIENDS AND IN HIS WORK CIRCLE. THIS IS SEEN THAT THE WAY THE PEOPLE

SIMILARLY BEGINNING 1/15TH PART OF SRAVANA IS GIVEN TO ABHIJIT, MAKING ITS TOTAL LENGTH TO BE 253.33 MIN, I.E., 4D
13M 20S. THE REMAINING 14/15TH PART OF SRAVANA IS ASSIGNED TO THE FOUR PADAS OF SRAVANA, MAKING THE TOTAL
DURATION OF SRAVANA TO BE 12D 26M 40S.
MAKARA BEING AN EXCEPTION, BECAUSE OF ASSIGNMENT OF FOUR EXTRA PADA OF INTERCALARY NAKSHATRA ABHIJIT.
MEANING OF AKSHARAS
W HENEVER A PARTICULAR SOUND IS UTTERED, IT HAS A VERY PECULIAR AND SPECIFIC INFLUENCE ON US AT VARIOUS LEVELS,
PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND SPIRITUAL. THUS THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND, WHAT EACH OF THE SOUND SIGNIFIED BY
THE VARIOUS AKSHARAS OF SANSKRIT SIGNIFY. THIS SHALL HELP US KNOW, WHAT KIND OF INFLUENCES WE LIKE TO DRAW TO
THE NATIVE WHEN HIS NAME IS CALLED BY OTHERS. THUS WHEN A PARTICULAR AKSHARA IS PICKED FOR THE NATIVE’S NAME, IT
THE FOLLOWING TABLE SHOWS THE MEANING OF EACH OF THE AKSHARAS OF THE DIVINE LANGUAGE, SANSKRIT AND HELP US IN

THE MOON IS THE SUSTAINER OF THE ARUDHA AND WHEN MOON IS PLACED IN THE TRINES OR 12TH FROM THE NAMA ARUDHA,
THE NATIVE GAINS FROM THE NAME. HOWEVER, MOON SHOULD NEVER BE PLACED IN THE 8TH FROM THE ARUDHA. SUCH
PLACEMENT OF MOON IS CALLED CHANDRASTAMA AND IS VERY DAMAGING TO THE ARUDHA, WHICH SHOWS THAT THE NATIVE

PRINCIPLES OF NAMINIG
THE FOLLOWING PRINCIPLES ARE TO BE FOLLOWED WHILE NAMING A BABY OR CHECKING THE EFFECT OF THE NAME ON
SOMEONE.
PRINCIPLE I:
THE NAME OF THE CHILD SHOULD BE BASED ON THE MOST AUSPICIOUS PLANET IN THE CHART. IF THE PLANET WHICH IS THE
MOST AUSPICIOUS AND BRINGER OF YOGA IS CHOSEN, THE BENEFICENCE OF THIS PLANET SHALL ALWAYS ONE THE NATIVE,
WHENEVER HIS/ HER NAME IS CALLED. THE AKSHARAS OF THIS PLANET SHALL BE THE STARTING AKSHARA OF THE NATIVE.
PRINCIPLE II:
AMONG THE AKSHARAS OF THE MOST AUSPICIOUS PLANET, CHOSE THE AKSHARA WHICH IS PLACED IN THE KENDRA/ TRIKONA
FROM MOON. IN CASE OF DOUBT, CHOSE THE AKSHARA OF THE MOON’S POSITION.
PRINCIPLE III:
IF THE SIGN, SELECTED BY THE ABOVE PROCESS IS CHARA RASI (MOVABLE SIGN), THEN TWO PHONEMES SHOULD BE

Number of children
1. THE NUMBER OF CHILDREN CAN BE FOUND OUT BY COUNTING THE NAVAMSA GAINED BY
THE 5TH LORD.
For example, the 5th lord is placed in Virgo Rasi and Gemini Navamsa. Counting
from Gemini (Navamsa) to Virgo Rasi [Virgo (6) - Gemini (3) = 3], we have four
signs, i.e., the 5th lord has to gain three Navamsas to reach Virgo or upto three
children should be anticipated (COVA- Page 190). This is however a crude method
can can be used with care.
Pt. Rath says that, for this method to work, the 5th lord should be placed with the
Jupiter (Karaka for Navamsa). However, from an illustration given in Page 200 of
COVA, we see that this is not a necessary condition. Here Mars is not associated or
aspected by Jupiter, but the Lagna is aspected by Jupiter from the 7th, through Rasi
and Graha Drsti both. Here we might conclude that for this method to work, Jupiter
should be strongly placed in the horoscope and influence the factors of progeny.
2. THIS CAN ALSO BE SEEN FROM THE PLANETS ASPECTING THE 5TH BY GRAHA OR RASI
DRSTI.
Most standard texts prescribe the involvement of the Signs Gemini, Virgo, Scorpio or
Aquarius for the birth of the twins. They add Gemini and Virgo also to Aquarius and
Scorpio, since the signs are lorded by Mercury whose nature is dual.
ILLUSTRATION
In the chart of the standard nativity, the 5th lord Moon is in Aquarius Rasi and Pisces
Navamsa, which shows that there are possibilities of 11 children, however while we
count from Pisces we have to stop in Taurus, because Gemini is occupied by a
node. Thus the maximum no. of children is limited to 2 only shown by the signs Aries
and Taurus.

1ST CHILD: THE SAPTAMSA LAGNA IS IN AN ODD SIGN AND HENCE THE COUNTING SHALL BE IN A
ZODIACAL MANNER. THE 1ST CHILD IS SHOWN BY THE 5TH LORD MARS, PLACED IN GEMINI WITH
EXCHANGE OF PLANETS, IT INDICATE MALE CHILD. ITS WORTHWHILE TO NOTE THAT THE 6TH LORD,
THE MARAKA IS ASPECTING MERCURY, SHOWING THAT THE CHILD SHALL FACE TERRIBLE CONDITION
AND CAN FACE DEATH. HOWEVER, DUE TO GRAHA DRISTI OF JUPITER ON MERCURY AND RASI DRSTI
For matters concerning children, the placement of the fifth lord and the planets
should be seen from the Jupiter, the naisargika putra karaka. If there are planets in
strengths from the Jupiter, they can indicate the number and nature of the children.
The placement of the fifth lord from Jupiter will indicate the extent of gains from
Children etc.- Pt. Sanjay Rath (COVA, Page 169)
The timing of birth of Individual children, their nature, abilities and fortune is seen in
the Saptamsa chart. This has been explained in detail by Maharishi Jaimini
Upadesha Sutras. (COVA 8.6.1)
COUNTING
The first child is seen from the 5th house counted zodiacally or anti-zodiacally
depending on whether the Lagna is ODD or EVEN . The subsequent pregnancies
are seen from every third house (Manduka Gat i). Thus if an odd sign ascends in the
Saptamsa, the individual pregnancies are seen in the 5th, 7th, 9th, 11th etc. If an
even sign ascends in the saptamsa, the individual pregnancies are seen in the 9th,
7th, 5th, 3rd and so on. (COVA)
After the Manduka Gati reached the point of start, the sequence of jumps would
repeat again, which can’t be allowed. To counter this problem, the next sign arrived
at is by Crawling the sign. For illustration, after the jump sequence reaches from 5th
to 3rd, the next sign after 3rd would be 5th again, thus here the jump doesn’t
progress to the 5th, but the 4th there in, where the frog is supposed to be crawling,
than jumping as there is no space for jumping, 5th house, being already considered.
“Thus the order of pregnancy becomes 5-7-9-11-1-3-4-6-8-10-12-2. For even sign
the sequence becomes 9-7-5-3-1-11-10-8-6-4-2-12.”
The nodes generally indicate the last child. For exapmple, if Rahu is in the 7th or
joins the seventh lord, the native may have two children. (Jaimini Sutras)
The sex of the child is seen from the lord of the sign ruling the house of pregnancy. If
the lord is exalted or conjoin male planets (Sun, Rahu, Jup, Mars), the issue is male.
If the lord is debilitated or conjoins female planets (Moon, Ketu, Venus), the issue is
female. Saturn and Mercury are eunuch planets, but they have found to indicate
female and male children respectively.
If the lord of the sign is neither exalted/ debilitated, not conjoins any other planets,
the sex of the child is seen from the nature of the sign occupied by it. All Odd signs
excepting the Aquarius and Gemini are male birth signs while all the even signs,
expecting Cancer and Pisces are Female birth signs.

1. EFFECT OF PARIVARTANA
1.1 On Counting:
If Venus becomes the lord of Saptamsa Lagna, the issues indicated by the planets in
the 8th from Venus cannot survive unless conjoins Ketu (Ganapati), as these issues
will have Venus in the Marana Sthana (Reference). The same principle can be
extended to other planets. Thus in case of Different Saptamsa Lagna, the placement
of the lord of the child in the following places cannot survive.

VENUS - 8TH
SATURN- 1ST
RAHU - 5TH
Thus the principle states that if the Saptamsa Lagna lord is placed in a Marana
karaka Sthana from the Lord of the child, then either the parent or the child survive,
unless, there is a blessing.
