GLT2(Guided Lead Teaching 2) Lesson plan

Name : Aarti Newalkar

Date: 11/29/18
Grade: 9th
Content Area: Algebra 1

Student Characteristics and Prior Knowledge:

● Students already have worked with linear equations, graphing linear equations.
● Students were briefly introduced to this concepts in middle school about solving system
of equations in two variables by three different methods
Graphing, Substitution, and Elimination.

Warm-Up Exercise: We are not doing any warm up activity at this point. We are planning to
start with our activity for the day.

Unit Plan Title: Solving System of Linear Equations

Unit Goal: solving system of linear equations in two variables by Graphing,
Substitution, and Elimination.
Determine if system of equations have one solution, infinitely many
solutions or no solution.
Michigan Core Math Standards:
A-REL : reasoning with equations and Inequalities
Prove that, given a system of two equations in two variables,
replacing one equation by the sum of that equation and a multiple of
the other produces a system with the same solutions.
A.REI.C : Focusing on solving linear equations in two variable.
Lesson Plan Title: Solving System of Linear equations.
Objectives:
● Students should be able to solve system of equations using a variety of methods.
● Explain why a method was chosen when they choose to solve the system of
Equations.
● Understand the situation whereby the solutions to the system of equations is no
solution, one solution or infinitely many.

Instructional Material: Will edit and provide the problems link that we(Mr Rizzi and myself edit
it tomorrow)

Instructional Procedure: Students will be working in groups to play Tug Of War Game with
Some questions on smart board. They will make the choice of either they will solve the system
of equations mentioned on the slide by using Graphing, Substitution or Elimination.
They need to discuss and come up with the reason why they choose that option and convince
the other group the same.
Next they will be introduced to the concept of special cases in the system of equations where
the system of equations will have no solution, or infinitely many solutions.

Focus Question:
● Does it matter which method we use to solve the system of equation?
● What do we know about the solution? (It is the intersection point of these two lines)
● How do we write our solution?(In ordered pairs but if its a story problem we write it in the
statement form)

Accommodations/ Adaptations:
The slides are made in a format that all students can read and also they are made in the
appropriate contrast.
The instructions are clear and simple. And the assignment is engaging.
For a person with special needs she has a para and we are thinking of giving her a laminated
sheet of paper that can give her the flexibility to choose either option without any movement.

Assessment/ Evaluation:
Assessment to check student understanding of Solving System of Linear Equations using either
of the three methods and their reasoning to choose so.
We will give them couple problems to solve and collect that for a quick check on how they
performed.

Closure: Review with them everything they have been working so far with and and get them
ready for the checkpoint the next day.
