Lesson Length- 90 mins
Analyze Learners:
• Total Number of Students- 24
• Male Students- 10
• Female Students- 14
• Low Learning Skills- 6
• ESL Students- 2
• SPL Students- 0
• Visual Learner(s)- 6

• Verbal Learner(s)- 6 or 7
• Interpersonal Learner(s)- 3 or 4
• Logical/Mathematical Learner(s)- 3 or 4
Objectives:
• SOL 6.2- Students will take a look at the solar system and the ways the solar systems
interact.
• SOL 6.3- Students will begin to observe the relationship between the sun, moon and the
earth.
Media, Materials, and Methods:
Media: Students school assigned computers, Teacher computer, overhead projector, projection
screen.
Materials:
• Crayons
• Scissors
• Pencils (colored)
• Markers
• Glue
• Construction paper
2

• “Create your own solar system” sheets

• Moon, sun, earth matching sheet
• Preassessment sheet
Methods:
• Whole group: participate in a preassessment to see what they know.
• Whole group: Participate in a group learning lecture.
• Whole group: instruction for the activities.
• Small group opportunities:
o Create your own solar system
o Moon, Sun, Earth
o Online Assignment
Utilize Media, Materials, and Methods:
Media:
• School Assigned Computers- the students will use their computers to do the online
assignment to explore the basics of the solar system.
• Teacher computer- will be used to guide the students through the online assignment so
that they know what the teacher is expecting.
• Overhead projector- will be used to project what is on the teachers screen so that the
students can follow her instruction step by step.
• The projection screen will be connected to the overhead projector to have a place to
actually project the content.
Materials:
• Crayons- will be used to add color to the student's solar systems.
• Scissors- will be used to cut the different planets and other parts of the solar system.
• Pencils (colored)- can also be used to add color
• Markers- can also be used to add color
• Glue- used to attach the planets to the construction paper
• Construction paper- will be used as a background to the student's solar systems
• “Create your own solar system” sheets- will be used to allow the students to be hands on
in learning the basics of the solar system.
• Moon, sun, earth matching sheet- will be used to see whether or not the students are able
to differentiate between the 3 subjects.
• Preassessment sheet- will be used to evaluate what the students already know about the
solar system and the sun, moon and earth.
Methods:
• Whole group preassessment- Will be used to see what the students already know about
the topics we are learning. They will be able to actually prove to the teacher what they
know already.
• Whole group lecture- Will be used to educate the students on things they did not already
know or that they knew mildly. This will be the main part of the class time to ensure they
feel like they know the topic well.
3

• Whole group: instruction for the activities. - This will be used to make sure the students
know what they’re doing in the activities they are doing in the class that day.
• Small group opportunities- used so that they students can work in small groups but also
thrive to finish the assignment at each station.
Require Learner Participation:
Whole Group Preassessment-
During this time, the teacher will hand the students preassessment sheets to see what they already
know. They will attempt to answer the questions on the preassessment so that the teacher will be
able to see what they know. The teacher will inform the students that this will not go towards
their grade and that it is just a way for her to see what they know.
Whole Group Lecture-
During this time, the teacher will take from the preassessments to go over the things that the
students did not understand. She will make it a point to cover the things they knew lightly and
then go more in depth on the things they had no knowledge of. During this time the students will
be able to ask questions on the concepts that they do not understand so that the teacher is able to
elaborate more on these topics.
Whole Group Instruction-
During this time, the teacher will begin to tell the students what they will be doing in the small
groups and then elaborate further on each station so that the students will be well educated on
what they are doing in class during the time.
Small Groups-
The students will work in three different small groups to further expand upon what they learned
earlier in the class.
• Create your own solar system: The students will have the opportunity to make their own
solar system and see the different ways to arrange and see how the solar system looks in
this 2D view. They will then begin to cut, color, and paste the planets to the selected
construction paper, then will be able to see what different solar systems are able to look
like.
• Matching sun, earth, and moon: During the activity, the students will be able to look at
the several pictures given and match them to the words. This will not only allow them to
see several different pictures but see if they are able to notice the differences and match
them with the given words.
• Website: The website will be used to explore the solar systems and play games that are in
similarity to learning the differences between the moon, sun, and earth. They will play
several different interactive games to grow their knowledge of the subject at hand.
Each of the different groups will appeal to the student’s interest which will keep them involved
and interested in the topic. They will work with other students to compare and evaluate the
different outcomes they each got from the activities. This will allow for the students to work in a
quick and interactive setting with other
Evaluation:
4

The students will be evaluated on each of the sections of the lesson, from the preassessment to
each of the lessons and everything in between. Each aspect of this lesson is used to see how well
they are grasping to the concept. How they do on the final evaluation will be a determination of
how long we will stay on this topic. They should have a good knowledge of the solar system and
how it works and the placement and differences of the sun, moon, and earth.
Instructor Performance:
The instructor can make sure to stay present in the class. Make sure she is ready and available to
ask questions, open to explanations, wondering the room to listen in on the students and what
they are gaining from the lesson, etc. Then the teacher will be able to really see how the students
grasped the concept once they turn in their activity sheets and she is able to evaluate their
performance.
Media Performance:
The media was used as a way to make sure the students are gaining the most learning from the
activities provided. The media made sure to get the point of the lesson across to the students and
was very well working.
