Muhammad: The Divine Masterpiece
Muhammad: The Divine Masterpiece
O Messenger of God
We have come to greet you
And it is from your Sunnah
To never turn a visitor away
Nor to leave him empty-handed
So we ask of you
In this blessed hour
To beseech the Lord
For our much needed forgiveness
O Blessing from God
Dress us in the robes of your affection
Look upon us with a gaze of tenderness
For our hearts are yearning
And our will is weak
And you are our hope
So intercede for us and our loved ones
And take us by your perfumed hand
And keep us in your close embrace
And give us to drink from your Fountain
O the Light of our hearts
Our love for you is our provision
Our love for you is our ship
And it carries us on the sea of life
Without it we would drown in our weakness
And our sight would be feeble and short
But you have turned our face to the Hereafter
With your close attention and care

Muhammad: The Divine Masterpiece
I stand at the Door of Merciful Infinity
With no power nor ability
With no deeds to explain this vicinity
O Dweller of the Enlightened City
My Soul knows no other who meets this affinity
O My Door to the Pure Divinity
To the Lord of Unicity
O Possessor of a Light That Shines Most Brilliantly
May my heart reflect your countenance vividly
O Possessor of Grace and Chivalry
No justice would do even a thousand litanies
O Our Infallible Means to Stability
O Possessor of Sublimity
O Our Water of Resiliency
O Distributor of Tranquility
O Solution to Every Difficulty
O Antidote to Every Sin That Limits Me
O My Heart’s Serenity
O Cure to Our Every Deficiency
O You Through Whose Light Hearts See
O Source of Every Humility
I beseech you, by this proximity
Visit me.
O Allāh - send your peace and seas
Of blessings upon he who oversees
Your servants and renders their hearts appeased
The Holder of Paradise’s Keys .

Muhammad: The Divine Masterpiece
O Visitor of Madīnah
Tread the land lightly
For here rests
The Dearest to God
From the start to the end
Of Eternity
And he is the Master of Mankind
Speak gently
O Visitor of the City of Light
And give your heart to silence
Bask in the tranquility
In the rays of Mercy and Divine Gifts
O Visitor of al-Baqī
Who rests here?
Those beloved to this Pole of Creation
Who have felt his touch
Who have been dressed in his gaze
Who have been softened by his speech
Will you laugh much and weep little?
O Visitor to the Sacred Land
Will you not reflect
On the Noble Being who tread this earth?
Will you not keep him in your heart?
And give your Soul reprieve
Give your Soul security
Give your Soul salvation
Ask for nothing less in this visit
For this is your gift if He so Wills.
4
Muhammad: The Divine Masterpiece
We begin with God's Blessed Name and praise Him
Then we invoke blessings upon the Most Celebrated
Our invocations upon him are our means to peace
We enter this fortress, minds at rest, hearts elated

Muhammad: The Divine Masterpiece
Mercy
The Soul’s Means
To escape every difficulty
The Gate to Tranquility
The Remedy
To every predicament-stricken entity
Sent as a Light , beautifying every crevice in
The Lands and the Heavens, every created being's Medicine
Mercy to the Worlds , means mercy to the worlds
Mercy to the humans, jinns, the trees, the bees, the seas, the birds
Mercy to the soil, the lakes, the seeds, the deeds, the thoughts, the
words
Mercy to the boys, the girls, the last, the first, the best, the worst
Mercy to the blessed and cursed, the who? O yes, the cursed too
Mercy bursting like a Sun, with rays that shun no piece of earth
Nursing every seedling buried, in good keeping from their birth
Mercy to the pious, mercy to the sinners; Mercy
Mercy to the wise, mercy to the fools; Mercy
Mercy to the living, mercy to the dead; Mercy
Mercy to the knowers, mercy to the ignorant; Mercy
Mercy to the leaves, the blades of grass
Mercy extraordinary, mercy fragrant, mercy unsurpassed
Mercy to the cattle, mercy during peace and battle
Mercy during rest and travel, mercy, mercy, O mercy to dazzle
A healing mercy, feeding mercy, scenting mercy
Opening hearts, blessing the Souls, quenching the thirsty
A loving mercy, simple mercy, tender mercy
Free mercy, countless mercies in this mercy
7
Muhammad: The Divine Masterpiece
Merciful Lord, bless and send peace to Your Mercy to the Worlds
By the number of manifestations of Your Mercy
By the scope, the strength and power of Your Mercy
We pray for his merciful touch, merciful gaze
We pray for mercy to reach, mercy to praise
O Possessor of the Mercy to raise
Mercy to guide, Mercy to daze
Guide us to Merciful ways, Merciful days
Merciful Truth, Merciful graze
In the Garden of Your Merciful Vision
We ask for Your Merciful Admission
Keep us firm in the mercy of his Tradition
Bless, O Allāh, the mercy to our Souls, our hearts, our minds
Bless, O Allāh, the merciful conveyor of Your Signs
Bless, O Allāh, the beauty by which every heart is mesmerized
Bless, O Allāh, he through who every guided Soul is made to rise
8
Muhammad: The Divine Masterpiece
They ask me, “Tell me about your beloved?”
What can I say to you; his beauty has made me a poet
What can the thirsty man in the barren desert pray for
Except for even a sip of water to survive
This is the likeness of the lovers with Muḥammad
For surely it is only water that does quench
And Muhammad is the water for our Souls
What can I say to you; his beauty has made me a poet
9
Muhammad: The Divine Masterpiece
I speak of his beauty , these words are flames, they speak of the Sun
Warm yourself in this beauty and open your eyes to the path
The flame illuminates the room and you see the door
Step outside to take in the embrace of the Sun
What can I say to you; his beauty has made me a poet
10
Muhammad: The Divine Masterpiece
The heart knows no beauty like that of Muḥammad
How can it? When the Soul has whispered a secret to it
None can match the Possessor of the Praised Station
So, O heart, how can you reach your Lord without him ?
Can one enter the sphere of the Guider without His Guidance ?
How can one be entered into the Proximity of the King
Without first being dressed in the Lights of His Beloved ?
11
Muhammad: The Divine Masterpiece
12
Muhammad: The Divine Masterpiece
The face of Aḥmad
Like the Full Moon enrobed in a pure silk cloth
Light flowing as though flooding from his blessed pores
His blessed eyes
Darkened as by Kohl, shadowed like the Moon’s crevices
Those blessed lips sweetened by the Divine Revelation
His utterance of it a mellow articulation of sincerity
Not artificial, not disguised
Plain and natural as the bee delivering its honey
Melodious and pure, enrapturing whoever hears it
Lustrating the heart of every listener
Decorating it with deep tranquility and beauty
O the generosity and care-taking of that Prophet
Were the shame of a sinner and transgressor
From his Ummah to surface for all to see
He would shelter it under his own blessed cloak
O the beauty of that Prophet and O the humility
Were he to sit amongst the destitute and outcast
You could not tell him apart due to his bashfulness
O how we long for the Light of Aḥmad to adorn us
That we may reach our Lord with manners
That we may love through Allāh and for Allāh
That we may give only to please Him
O Allāh – Your Generosity is unfathomable
And You have showered me with blessings over and over
What have I but You?
Convey Your peace and blessings upon
13
Muhammad: The Divine Masterpiece
14
Muhammad: The Divine Masterpiece
The Beloved Muḥammad is like the Full Moon
But one that neither eclipses nor it does wane
And with a Light brighter than the sun at high noon
Whose quenching touch is gentler than summer rain
15
Muhammad: The Divine Masterpiece
O Muḥammad – your smile is my paradise
For it I would trade this world and what is in it
By your merciful gaze the Souls are raised
Up to the Presence of the Lord Almighty
16
Muhammad: The Divine Masterpiece
Muḥammad, possessor of beauty and perfection
Possessor of guidance and intercession
Muḥammad, our hope on the Day of Resurrection
Whose remembrance brings reform to our intention
17
Muhammad: The Divine Masterpiece
Our Key
If you are looking for Madīnah
Follow the tears of his lovers
And if you find yourself
Already amongst them
Then seek no further
Certainly not its bricks and carpets
But its very Soul mingles with theirs
Do you not perceive
O internally blind one
Muḥammad is amongst us
Do you not perceive
O heretical literalist
It is only through his Light
That you may enter Paradise
His love is our Key
To the gates of the Divine Court
O Allāh – convey your utmost blessings
Upon the Resplendent Guiding Light
With a prayer that joins our Souls
With his , here and Hereafter
18
Muhammad: The Divine Masterpiece
O you who does seek proximity
My brother there is no faster means
For those who sway lost in the sea:
Muḥammad, the Divine Masterpiece
19
Muhammad: The Divine Masterpiece
Prophecy Reigns
By God's Will, all of creation is subjected to him
All is holy, all is loved that is connected to him
Possessor of beauty, protected from sin
Countless salutations be sent unto him
20
Muhammad: The Divine Masterpiece
21
Muhammad: The Divine Masterpiece
O my heart, do not dream except
That you first place yourself at the bottom of our grave
For as long as you are conscious of my imminent death
Then I worry not where you wander off to with your dreaming
And as long as you remember that our breaths are numbered
Then I trust you will not transgress the rights of Reality
22
Muhammad: The Divine Masterpiece
23
Muhammad: The Divine Masterpiece
Were musk to seek to perfume itself
I would guide it to the touch of the Most Praised
If a station were to hold itself in high esteem
I would point skywards to the Most Raised
24
Muhammad: The Divine Masterpiece
Minted by Aḥmad
My heart, my blood, my bones
Are for the Family of the Prophet
My possessions, my dreams, my hopes
I sacrifice to the Family of my Beloved
25
Muhammad: The Divine Masterpiece
The one who praises
Virtues of excellence
Is knowingly or unknowingly
Praising Muḥammad
26
Muhammad: The Divine Masterpiece
O Soul, every relationship, is a relationship with your Lord
This entire life is but a conversation with your Lord
So when you thank your Lord with your tongue
Thank your Lord with your heart
And when you thank the creation with your tongue
Thank your Lord with your heart
27
Muhammad: The Divine Masterpiece
O Soul, have you not been taught
That it is bad manners
To prepare for a guest
Only after its arrival?
28
Muhammad: The Divine Masterpiece
29
Muhammad: The Divine Masterpiece
In invocation upon the Solace of the Hearts
Pangs of hunger feel like the tickles of Angels
Beads of sweat are like pearls from the Heavens
The heat of Summer feels like the hug of a baby
30
Muhammad: The Divine Masterpiece
O Dweller of Madīnah
Glory to Allāh, who brought forth two Eids
The second outshines the first
Like the Sun next to a candlelight
O Dweller of Madīnah
If Eid ending Ramadhan means
Quenching thirst after bodily abstinence
Then Eid ending your distance means
Quenching thirst after the desert of separation
O What a difference between
the thirst of the body
and the thirst of the Soul!
Praise be to Allāh
Who quenched the crevices of our Souls
If pure milk is to be brought from His Infinite Sea,
Would He choose other than
The purest of river beds for it to flow through?
A Light shone upon my heart
That set it aflame and made my eyes sweat
My limbs at rest, a deep sigh from the bed of my chest
What is this river of sadness that has come forth?
My body has arrived, but my Soul still yearns
As though it longs to be mingled with the soil of this city
O Allāh - bless Your bringer of glad tidings
Till this fever in my heart and body
Is met with his eternal company
31
Muhammad: The Divine Masterpiece
Rasūl Allāh brought you
the Profession of Unicity,
the Prayer,
the Zakat,
the Fasting of Ramadhan,
the Hajj,
he brought you the Noble Word of God,
he brought you guidance to every good
and protection from every evil,
he is the most Beautiful
and most Majestic creation of God,
he brought an accepted and guaranteed
relationship with your Lord,
and he is guidance perfected ,
his aspirations are the pinnacle of every aspiration ,
his way of life is the perfect prototype
and inspiration for every life,
his character is the Spring of perfect character
that every perfect character trait gushes and flows from,
his generosity is the Sun
that every nourishing ray of generosity in existence shines from.
Who heeds him , heeds God.
Who neglects his command , neglects the command of God.
32
Muhammad: The Divine Masterpiece
Understand.
33
Muhammad: The Divine Masterpiece
I cling with my Soul to the coat-tail of my Shaykh
As I cling with my limbs to the Kiswa of the Ka ba
For in his heart is found That House and Its Possessor
That majestic being extending from the Progeny of al-Muṣṭafā
Like the foal and its mother, I follow the steps of al-Ḥaydar
I have found in this world no equal to the Path of these Men
And were the world and what is in it to offer itself in trade
“Muḥammad and his party” would be my cry, again and again
34
Muhammad: The Divine Masterpiece
Our Proof
O seeker of proofs -
leave us and seek on your proofs
with the Muftis and Grammarians
our proof is a secret in our heart
were you to silence your self sufficiently
you would taste that which nurtures the Soul
rather than that which fuels the tongue
O seeker of proofs -
be still, be silent
In the company of Muḥammad's lovers
and the proofs themselves
will seek you
35
Muhammad: The Divine Masterpiece
The Lover
The lovers, amongst those seeking their Lord,
are the nearest in Proximity and most cherished.
Do you not see how when one loves another,
such as when a man falls in love with a woman,
he seeks to know all that she loves?
If she loves a certain color,
he will wear it and adorn his home with it.
If she loves a certain scent,
he will perfume himself and his home with it.
If she loves a person, so will he.
If she loves a certain place,
he too will cherish it,
and may even spend nights there
to quench his thirst of love.
So it is with His lovers
Yet their intentions are veiled
from those whose hearts are not colored
by the hues of God's love,
That is why you may find them
seeking out all that He loves,
seeking those whom He loves,
those whose hearts
He opened to His Proximity and Love.
That is why you see them
seeking those places of the Earth
He has raised in status and made sacred.
That is why you see them
36
Muhammad: The Divine Masterpiece
37
Muhammad: The Divine Masterpiece
O you lovers
who have inhaled
the inebriating scent of al-Muṣṭafā ,
and who have bathed in that Presence ,
and who have beheld that Full Moon ,
38
Muhammad: The Divine Masterpiece
O Coolness of My Eyes ,
Take this needy hand and raise it with you
Till this clay beneath my feet
Meets neither my eyes nor my heart,
Till I enter into His Garden
In your Majestic Presence ,
May the blessings and peace of Allāh Most High
be upon you
and your Sanctified Family
and Companions eternally.
39
Muhammad: The Divine Masterpiece
When a lady appears before me in her Ḥijāb
I am reminded of my beloved Muḥammad
Not only due to her will being aligned with his
But for the courage that manifests upon her
Especially in the times of ignorance that we live in
A Divinely Ordained Crown that she weighs upon her lower desires
Verily it is the humility that springs from his heart
That flows as a beautiful covering for every believer
Thus the Ḥijāb is an internal reality made manifest
And so it is that we are fashioned by the Muḥammadan Lights
The King of Kings gave us of His Beauty
As the King does offer a gift to His beloved servant
And ordered us to guard this treasure
Lest we be dispossessed of it by darkness
And so I am reminded of this trust
And so I am reminded of this gift
And so I am reminded of its sanctity
Verily we have honoured the Children of Adam (17:70)
O Ḥijāb - you appear as a piece of cloth
But to the believing heart you are Remembrance
A Dhikr for the lovers, a vehicle of Divine Aspiration
O Ḥijāb, you appear as a headdress
Yet you are like the page of a love-note
From the Beloved Almighty Allāh
Delivered by Muḥammad
O Allāh – dress the believing men and women
With the inner Ḥijāb of modesty
40
Muhammad: The Divine Masterpiece
41
Muhammad: The Divine Masterpiece
Were the Gaze of Muḥammad to reach me
I would, with the Light upon my brow,
Boast before the brightest stars in the skies
“O Stars, make way, be not shameless!”
For his sake , not the receiver's
For no cheek is met by this Mercy
But it is crowned as a manifest King
In the Heavens and in the lands
Amongst Mankind and Jinn
Amongst the animals and plants
Amongst the mountains and seas
Worldly kings are compelled
To lower their necks in reverence
Before he who is cradled in the sphere
Of Muḥammad’s Gaze
In reality, no creature is praised
Except for Muḥammad
For he is the Spring of Praiseworthy Traits
And the Light in every good deed and word
The Guiding Light, in this very moment amongst us!
Like Waters of Alchemy
Your portion is proportionate to your aspiration
Drink, then drink some more!
More, O lover, this River dries not!
O Muḥammadan Lights –
Do keep gushing to our hearts
And do keep transforming our lives
42
Muhammad: The Divine Masterpiece
43
Muhammad: The Divine Masterpiece
Upon affliction,
I raise the Flag of my Prophet ever higher
For he is the Way
Out of every trial and tribulation
You are not doing any favor to your Religion
By raising any other flag
You are, in your limited comprehension
Of his Oceans of Mercy
Failing to represent him
and the message he was sent with
And instead making public
Your faulty understanding of this Religion
We are with Muḥammad
and he is with the Truth
And he is with the oppressed,
and tireless against injustice
So tell me, what other flag do we need?
What other flag do we need?
O true colors, o true colors,
How you never fail to rise,
How you never fail to rise,
No less than the Sun nor the Moon
The acumen of Light
Cannot fathom putting out fire with fire
No, the fires of falsehood are only put out
With those sweet waters
The waters of Divine Revelation and Celestial Mercy
44
Muhammad: The Divine Masterpiece
45
Muhammad: The Divine Masterpiece
Would you still sit at the feet of your Shaykh
If he knew no fame?
If Allāh had not granted him notoriety as a provision
Would you still seek his company?
If that Soul you call your guide
Lived but on crumbs and was hidden from this world
Would you, were you taken to him, clasp his hand?
What is it in this man that you see?
Is it a magnificent Soul whose gaze uplifts you
Whose presence and words direct you
Whose state rectifies your heart?
Or is it a well-groomed man
With an eloquent tongue
And a far-reaching reputation?
If Allāh had not dressed him
In this outer attractive power
Would his inner himma
Grasp your attention?
O follower – the image of this man
Is but the foam of the ocean
And if you were to taste the majesty of its breadth
You would be too bewildered
To preoccupy your self with his outer image
So return to him with a heart empty of images
See not his outer form
And give your form up to the formless
For were you to do that
46
Muhammad: The Divine Masterpiece
47
Muhammad: The Divine Masterpiece
Death comes to those who wait for it
and to those who do not wait for it.
Death comes.
Death comes.
48
Muhammad: The Divine Masterpiece
Death comes.
49
Muhammad: The Divine Masterpiece
O Allāh – by Would you not love for Allāh to forgive you?
Allāh is Forgiving and Merciful.
We turn to You
O Most Forgiving, Most Merciful –
we ask of You
And by Your forgiving Prophet –
we ask of You
O Allāh – bless our Master Muḥammad
by the number of times
“Astaghfirullāh” was voiced from the Day of Creation
And send peace upon Muḥammad
by the number of times
“Astaghfirullāh” was voiced from the Day of Creation
And through the door of this Majestic Prophet
We enter
As we prostrate to You, declaring:
Astaghfirullāh
With acceptance, make our every breath express:
Astaghfirullāh
O Allāh - for our lack of asking forgiveness:
Astaghfirullāh
And for our insincerity in asking forgiveness:
Astaghfirullāh
For every good word and deed we deprive ourselves from:
Astaghfirullāh

Muhammad: The Divine Masterpiece
In the time of ignorance,
an utterance of Truth appears as a blade to the open neck
But the Truth is not shy
When has the bat ever extinguished the Sun
by recoiling to its cave?
So tell me then
who really amongst its travellers is a dweller?
The breath of the Soul is aspiration to Truth,
and life is in its edging closer to it
Its death is in stagnation
brought about by the ego’s veils.
59
Muhammad: The Divine Masterpiece
Rise above.
60
Muhammad: The Divine Masterpiece
Love for the sake of Allāh is measured not by passion
For even the wicked can mimic zeal
No, this love is a silent storm that churns in the chest
And its waves are the emulation of the Pious
O Ḥusayn! They grieve, but have they overlooked your victory?
They grieve your death
But have they overlooked your life?
Fight them until there is no more fitnah
and Religion is professed only for Allāh (2:193)
The transgressors willed to kill al-Ḥusayn
They want to extinguish the light of Allāh with their mouths,
but Allāh will perfect His light,
although the disbelievers dislike it (61:8)
But al-Ḥusayn was the Light
that chased injustice out of its darkness
And was made plain to see!
The transgressors willed to kill al-Ḥusayn
And do not speak of those who are slain in Allāh’s way as dead;
Nay, they are alive, but you do not perceive (2:154)
Verily, only those blinded to this manifest victory believe he is dead
Blind, like those who professed:
We have killed the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary,
the messenger of Allāh
they slew him not nor crucified him,
but it appeared so unto them (4:157)
But al-Ḥusayn is not dead to the lovers of Allāh
How can it be so?

Muhammad: The Divine Masterpiece
The Praiser
O seeker make your existence an exegesis of “alḥamdulillāh”
Praise be to Allāh
Praise, direct praise, and praise through means
Lillāh, to Allāh, to Whom all praise returns
All praise returns to Allāh
Direct praise, praise be to You
O Only One worthy of Praise
Indirect praise, praise be to You
Through the accepted Praiser of You
Whom You have Praised
Above all those praised
And none is praised except
Through His Praise of him
And thus he is, the Most Praised
Every Praise of creation
Extends from this Divine Praise of him
For every good in creation
Is manifest through this Most Praised Light He Created
This Possessor of the Most Praised Station
And there is no good in creation but His Praise
And every praise is in reality Praise of Him
All Praise returns to Him
O seeker, praise the Only one Praised
Through he whose praise is accepted
Every prayer is answered through his name
Thus every praise is accepted through his name
And his name is Muḥammad

What an exquisite body of land the Lord has spread
O Land of Allāh's Elect Ones
What can be said
About a land
That was granted as a refuge
To the Great Grandson
of the Pole of Creation himself
What can be said
About a land
Whose Earth cradles in its womb
Mountains amongst the Awliya
A land where the seekers
Are intoxicated by the fragrant breeze of Madīnah
O Maghrib
Blessed you are
And blessed are your people
May we be welcomed into your arms
And may your land be folded
Such that there is no distance
Between us and His Lovers and Friends
Such that not a single step is taken by us
Except by their side
O Allāh – protect us in our journeys
And protect the Family we leave behind us
Enter us into the sphere of Your Safety and Mercy
Enter us into the sphere of Your Peace and Wisdom
Enter us into the sphere of Your Light and Guidance

Lamenting sighs
Of lovers departing
The City of Light
Piercing my heart
My body craving
Proximity to the Dweller
Beneath that Green Dome
No my heart is too weak
And this Light has engulfed it
And these steps away
From its home is just
Barely less than torture
I am a simple man
With simple words
And a simple love
But I am caught in the net
Of Muḥammad the Beloved of God
Nothing pains my heart quite like
Stepping away from your Golden Gates
O Muḥammad have Mercy on me
And you are for it
Be with me then in Spirit
O Allāh - you know my state
And my weakness is made plain
So - O God - make swift my return
And for every sincere lover
Whose heart burns as mine
