Q. No. ANSWER ALL THE QUESTIONS CO MARKS
1. A three-phase, 440 V, 50 Hz, 945 rpm, 6-pole delta-connected induction motor 5
has following parameters referred to the stator: R2 = 2 Ω, Rr’ = 2 Ω, Xs = 3 Ω,
Xr’ = 4 Ω. When driving a fan load at rated voltage it runs at rated speed. The
motor speed is controlled by stator voltage control.
Determine (i) Motor terminal voltage, current and torque at 800 rpm (12)
(ii) Motor speed, current and torque for the terminal voltage of 280 V. (08)
2. (a) A 440 V, 50 Hz, 6 pole, star-connected squirrel cage induction motor has 5
following parameters: Rs = 0.6 Ω, Rr’ = 0.3 Ω, Xs = Xr’ = 1 Ω. The normal full
load slip is 0.05. The motor is fed from a voltage source inverter, which
maintains a constant V/f ratio. For an operating frequency of 10 Hz, calculate
the breakdown torque as a ratio of its value at the rated frequency. What
should be V/f ratio at 10 Hz so that the breakdown torque at this frequency
remains the same as at rated frequency? (12)
(b) A 3-phase delta connected, 6 pole, 50 Hz, 400 V, 925 rpm, squirrel cage 5
induction motor has the following parameters: Rs = 0.2 Ω, Rr’ = 0.3 Ω, Xs = 0.5
Ω, Xr’ = 1 Ω. The motor is fed from a voltage source inverter with a constant
V/f ratio from 0 to 50 Hz and constant voltage of 400 V above 50 Hz
frequency. Determine the breakdown torque for a frequency of 100 Hz as a
ratio of its value at 50 Hz. (08)
3. A 440 V, 50 Hz, 6 pole, star-connected squirrel cage induction motor has 5
following parameters: Rs = 0.6 Ω, Rr’ = 0.3 Ω, Xs = Xr’ = 1 Ω. The normal full
load slip is 0.05. The motor is fed from a voltage source inverter, which
maintains a constant V/f ratio. The inverter frequency range is from 60 Hz to
5 Hz. Calculate the starting torque and current of this drive as a ratio of their
values when the motor is started at the rated voltage and frequency. (10)
