“The Iowa in Tianjin summer program is designed for students with 3-3 years of college Chinese language, The
eight-week program includes a & semester hour intensive Chinese language course, a3 semester hour Chinese area
studies course, and 8 1 semester hour practical course in Chinese Folk A,
‘The teaching methods allow students atthe elementary and intermedlate proficiency levels to acqulre language
skills required for effective communication ina shart period of time. For advanced students, this program's goals
terhelp cevelop tanguage proficency ata professional level
Cultural Activities
‘There will bea program orientation at the beslanng ofthe session in Being. Students will Vist famous places lke
the Forbidden City and the Great Wall whle in Chin's capital. Program activities include excursions in Tlanyin and
the surrounding area. Toware the end ofthe pragram, participants will spend five days visting another part of,
China. Past sites have Included Taishan Mountain, the Shaolin Temple, and Xan, home ofthe Tera Cotta Warriors.
Conversation partners from among interested TUT stucents are avalable. Homestays of varying lengths may be
offered as space allows
