FT, 40-hours, exempt Montalvo Arts Center is seeking an experienced, highly energetic Development Director, to plan and direct all fundraising programs by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate program managers. This position reports to the Executive Director and is a member of the Senior Management team at Montalvo.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Acts as the liaison to the Funds Development Committee and works closely with members of Montalvo staff, Trustees, major donors, contractors and volunteers. Prepares, monitors and administers all fundraising budgets. Appoints, leads, trains, evaluates, and manages development staff, consultants and volunteers. Directs the planning and coordination of annual giving, major gifts, Institutional giving, special events, research and database management, online gifts and volunteer support. Creation and development of Planned Giving program. Works closely with Board Development Committee to recommend, research, and evaluate potential trustees for Board membership. Assigns responsibilities for personal solicitation to members of the Board of Directors, staff, volunteer organizations, and governing body according to special interests or capabilities. Oversees the research of public and private grant agencies and foundations to identify potential sources of funding. Oversees the Institutional Gifts Manager on strategy and solicitation of potential funding sources. Oversees the organization of fundraising special events. Designs and oversees direct mail campaign to reach potential contributors. Oversees the development of donor and volunteer recognition programs. Informs potential contributors of special needs of institution, and encourages individuals, corporations, and foundations to establish or contribute to special funds through endowments, trusts, donations of gifts-in-kind, or bequests, conferring with attorneys to establish methods of transferring funds to benefit both donors and institution. Supervises and coordinates activities of staff engaged in maintaining records of contributors and grants, and preparing letters of appreciation to be sent to contributors. Perform other related duties as required.
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree and 8-10 years of fundraising responsibility within organizations supporting the arts for institutions with budgets of $4 million or larger. Master’s Degree preferred. Excellent organizational skills with particular attention to detail and capacity to multi-task under pressure. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively and independently to achieve goals. Use independent judgment and produce a quality product within tight time constraints. Experience with Raiser’s Edge software preferred. Development Director: Page 2
Working Conditions & Physical Tasks:
Candidate must have the ability to communicate via voice telephone, read and understand written communication, and generate written communication manually and using a computer. Candidate must also have the ability to sit at a desk for extended periods, lift and move documents and supplies up to 25 lbs., and bend or reach to file and retrieve documents. The position involves regular local travel; valid driver’s license and access to own vehicle is required. Occasional out-of-area and/or international travel may be required. The position requires evening/weekend availability.
