Rules and Regulations

1. NATURE OF THE CONTEST

A. The MATH COUNT 2018 is an interscholastic contest sponsored by the Mathematics


Teachers Association of the Philippines-Tertiary Level Chapter (MTAP-TL) in cooperation
with Mathematical and Physical Sciences Department , Far Eastern University- Institute of
Technology. Its main objective is to promote mathematics in different fields among college
students (currently enrolled as of the date of the contest).

B. The Contest shall be divided into two phases:


1. Elimination Round – December 15, 2018 at 8:00 AM
2. Final Round – December 15, 2018 at 10:30 AM

Registration starts at 7:00 AM to 8:00 AM.

C. The contest shall be divided into these areas:

AREA A – FIRST SPEED MATH TEST ( Individual)


An interscholastic contest sponsored by the VYP-MSC Solutions Corporation.

AREA B – SEVENTH CASIO- MTAP-TL MATHalino CHALLENGE 2018 ( Team)


An interscholastic contest sponsored by the Business Plus Marketing, distributor of Casio
Calculators. Each contestant is required to bring his or her CASIO FX991EX
CLASSWIZ calculators.

AREA C – Freshmen (Individual)


Open to all Freshmen students who have taken or are currently enrolled in Mathematics in the
Modern World.

AREA D – All curriculum years (Team)


Open to all curriculum years and topics covered are College and Advanced Algebra,
Trigonometry, Analytic and Solid Geometry, Calculus ( Differential, Integral and
Differential Equations), Number Theory and Statistics and Probability.
D. The contest will be divided into two categories: individual and team. The team shall be
composed of three (3) members and one (1) alternate. Each participating university can send
at least one team.

II. PROCEDURE

A. ELIMINATION ROUND

1. The elimination round is for Area C and Area D only and will be conducted on December 15,
2018 (Saturday), 9 AM, at the Far Eastern University- Institute of Technology. Contestants are
required to be at the contest site fifteen (15) minutes before the scheduled time. Each contestant is
required to bring his or her pens. No calculators are allowed. Contestants will be required to present
school ID's for proper identification.

2. This round shall be written contest, which will be taken by all team members
individually including the alternates. This examination will be administered for 1 hour. All questions are
problem solving type.

3. The team standing shall be based on the average score of the member in the said examination.
The top ten(10) scoring teams will qualify for the final round as a team in the Category D and the top ten
(10 ) freshmenn will qualify for the final round in the Category C.

4. Cheating and other forms of dishonesty will not be tolerated. Anyone caught doing such acts shall
automatically disqualify his team from the contest.

B. FINAL ROUND

1. The final round will be conducted at Far Eastern University- Institute of Technology on
December 15, 2018 (Saturday), 10:30 AM. Contestants are required to be at the contest site fifteen (15)
minutes before the scheduled time.

2. Since there are no elimination rounds for AREA A – FIRST SPEED MATH TEST ( Individual) and
AREA B – SEVENTH CASIO- MTAP-TL MATHalino CHALLENGE 2018 ( Team), the school
representatives for these two areas will automatically qualify for the final round..

3. The top ten (10) freshmen who took the elimination round will qualify for the AREA C. The top ten
(10) teams who took the elimination round will compete in AREA D.

3. The contest is divided into three rounds namely: Easy, Average and Difficult. Questions for each
round will be worth 7, 10, and 15 respectively. Each round will consist of ten questions in different
subject areas.

4. The individual/team with the highest accumulated scores in the three rounds will be the champion
for the specified categories.

5. In case of a tie, tie-breaking questions shall be asked until the tie is broken.

6. The alternate may be allowed to replace a team member after the first round.
III. COMPLAINTS AND PROTESTS

A. When complaints on a given question are asked these should be directed to the chairman of the
board of judges. All decisions of the board of judges are final and irrevocable.

B. Likewise, all protests will be handled and decided upon by the Board of Judges.

IV. PRIZES AND AWARDS


A. Participating students will be given certificates of participation.

B. Winners will receive cash prizes and plaque for the students and for the school.

V. REQUIREMENTS:
A. Registration fee of Three Hundred Pesos (P300.00)/contestant which covers lunch and certificate.
B. School ID
C. Accomplished reply slip form
D. School Registration Card
