This lesson is about knowing why the Japanese were interned, but leaves the
interpretation of the data up to the student. The rubric therefore focuses mostly on the principles
of did they do the work and are they developing critical thinking skills. The completion level of
the graphic organizer then is the best means of assessment of the lesson. The first 3 hypotheses
should be completed and any that are missing will affect their grade. It is important for the
students to have read and discusses the documents. The final paragraph is where the students will
use what they know to explain their understanding of why the Japanese were interred during
WWII. The students are free to explore their own reason as long as they are able to support it
with evidence from the documentation. They should have an opening and closing
statement/thesis. They should also support their statement with evidence and a sentence
explaining their evidence to the reader. Failure to provide evidence or failure in logic will result
in a lower grade. The rubric uses a complete scale in order to provide a more complete because
partial credit can be given in some situations, such as 3 attempts at evidence, but evidence might
