(LCD) Liquid Crystal Display

Figure 1; shows the condition when liquid crystal is on state and off state.

ON STATE

When the voltage is not applied to the liquid crystal, the liquid crystal molecule is twisted with
each other.

1. Surrounding light is polarized through the polarized filter in perpendicular (‘a’ direction).
2. Light moves along with the liquid crystal molecules and twisted at right angle.
3. Molecules and light is parallel with each other.
4. Light can pass through the polarized filter in horizontal (‘b’ direction). Thus the light can
appear in screen.

ON STATE

When the voltage is applied to the liquid crystal, the liquid crystal molecule is aligned with each
other in horizontal direction.

1. Surrounding light is polarized through the polarized filter in perpendicular (‘a’ direction).
2. Light moves along with the liquid crystal molecules in perpendicular direction
3. Light follows the direction of the molecules.
4. Light can’t pass through the polarized filter in horizontal (‘b’ direction) because the light
is in perpendicular direction. Thus the light can’t appear in screen.
Figure 2; this LCD display is a combination of many LCD called pixels

1. The letter or any image shows on the screen is a combination of many LCD display
pixels that the light is not pass the screen.
2. The screen appear green is the combination of many LCD pixels that the light can pass
through.

Color LCD Display

Figure 3; color LCD

For the color LCD display the principle is the same but it is added with RGB mask. Every pixel
has RGB Mask
Figure 4; LCD Display is a combination of RGB mask in every pixel.

The RGB mask in every pixel produced color image

Figure 5; RGB color combination create the colour that is needed

To create colors with RGB the primary color red, green, and blue need to be mix, each of the
primary colors can have a value in the range 0 to 255.
