Starving  To  Serve  
 

• ICE  BREAKER  Q  OPTIONS:  

a. CATCHING  UP:     What  was  the  most  significant  thing  that  happened  in  your  week?  
b. FUN:     If  you  could  only  eat  one  food  for  the  rest  of  your  life,  what  would  it  be?  
c. DEPTH:       Have  you  ever  deprived  yourself  of  something  on  purpose?  What  was  it  and  why  did  you  choose  to  go    
without  it?  

• DISCUSSION  QUESTIONS:  
1. Like  a  lot  of  other  stuff  in  the  Christian  life,  it’s  possible  to  fast  in  a  way  that’s  not  for  God.  What  does  it  look  like  to  
fast  for  God  versus  for  something  else?  Read  these  verses  as  you  discuss:    
• Zechariah  7:4-­‐6;  Matt  6:16-­‐18  
2. You’re  gonna  be  fasting  part  of  the  time  at  school.  Read  Matt.  6:16-­‐18  &  Matt  5:14.  These  verses  talk  about  fasting  
in  secret,  but  also  being  a  light  to  the  world,  how  can  you  accomplish  both  these  Goals  as  you  fast  at  school?  
3. The  bible  teaches  that  fasting  can  accomplish  a  variety  of  things  in  our  relationship  with  God.  (Conquering  
sin/addiction,  focusing  on  God,  seeking  God’s  direction,  humbling  ourselves  when  we’re  prideful).  Which  of  these  
can  you  take  advantage  of  personally  through  our  30-­‐hour  fast?  
4. Read  Philippians  2:3-­‐5,  John  13:14-­‐15;  1  John  4:19;  Matt  20:25-­‐28.  Part  of  Starving  to  Serve’s  purpose  is  to  raise  
money  for  our  weekend  of  service.  According  to  these  verses,  what’s  the  most  legitimate  motivation  that  makes  us  
excited  to  serve?  Also,  it’s  really  easy  to  serve  in  a  way  that  allows  us  to  be  prideful.  What  does  it  look  like  to  serve  
others  with  true  humility  and  care?  
5. Take  some  time  in  your  groups  to  strategize  sweet  places  and  opportunities  to  raise  money  for  Starving  to  Serve.  
Also,  practice  explaining  Starving  to  Serve  to  each  other  so  It’ll  be  easier  when  you  go  out  to  raise  money.  
6. Talk  about  any  remaining  questions  you  have  for  any  part  of  Starving  to  Serve.  
• PRAYER  GROUPS:  
o Everyone  shares  a  prayer  request  on  anything  in  his  or  her  life,  especially  making  fasting  measurable  this  week.
