Overview
The E1/T1 Manager manages the FXC E1/T1 and FXC E1 cards installed in TBS (TETRA base
station). The E1/T1 Manager is used locally as a stand-alone transmission manager.

The E1/T1 Manager is included in the Nokia Siemens Networks Sitewizard 4.15 or later package
which can be downloaded via the Nokia Siemens Networks Online Service (NOLS) or delivered on a
CD-ROM (the EADS sales code for “Sitewizard for FXC Management” is DA0780).

There are two different hardware versions of the FXC transmission cards: FXC E1/T1 and FXC E1.
For more details, refer to the FXC E1 and FXC E1/T1 Transmission Unit Description for TETRA,
dn05100057. Cross-connections can be made at 8k, 16k, 32k, 64k, n x 8k, n x 64k, and 2M granularity.
A connection can be made between 2M interfaces and also between a 2M line interface and a D-bus
interface. The D-bus is the internal interface of the TBS. Chained, loop, and star-network topologies
are supported.

User Interface
User Interface overview

The user interface consists of a Menu Bar, child windows, a Toolbar, a Status Bar and dialog boxes.
The user interface follows an object-oriented principle, where available operations are provided by
means of context sensitive popup menus. All supported operations are also available in the menu bar.

Each child window has a context sensitive popup menu that can be activated by clicking the right
mouse button. This menu gives available operations in the selected window. The child window may
have a specific area with its own context sensitive menu.

As some child windows require data retrieved from the node, this may cause some delay before the
contents of the window can be seen. Only one instance of each child window can be open at a time.

You can modify information included in the dialog boxes. In the connect mode, clicking the OK or
→Apply button will send the modified data to the node. In the file mode, selecting the →Save / Save As
menu command saves the modified data in a file.

All operations in the manager are accessible by mouse or keyboard. The toolbar also provides buttons
for most frequently needed commands.

Figure 3 : E1/T1 Manager Main Window

Menu Bar

Menu bar provides access to all features available for any given state of the Element manager. Menu
item availability depends upon the following factors: Whether connected or not, whether the manager is
in file (virtual) mode and user access level. Depending on the situation, some menu items may be
disabled. All menu items have a hint text that appears on the status bar

Toolbar

The toolbar provides short-cuts to commonly used menu options. The toolbar is normally displayed
below the menu bar, and it cannot be overdrawn by the child windows (an exception is the dockable
window). The toolbar is fixed (cannot be floated). The functions of the toolbar can also be executed by
a menu command (from a popup menu or the menu bar).

You can choose to display or hide the toolbar by switching it on and off using the Tools | Toolbar menu
command. The toolbar is on by default. You can also choose whether the toolbar has large or small
(default) icons using the →Tools | Large Icons menu command.

14(23) This document is the property of Cassidian Finland Oy and should not be copied or circulated without permission.
Each toolbar item has a toolbar tip text. The tip text is a text box that appears below the toolbar.

Status Bar

The status bar appears at the bottom of the application’s main window and the child windows cannot
overdraw it. The status bar is used to display context related messages. The status bar also indicates
the state of the manager whether it is connected to the unit.

The messages displayed in the status bar are the following types:

help message, which relates to the element currently pointed at (a menu option or a button on the
toolbar)

status message, which informs you about the completion of an action, for example

The status bar can be toggled on and off using the Tools | Status Bar menu command. The status bar
is on by default.

Some of the child windows may also have a status bar of their own.

Context Sensitive Popup Menus

The child windows support a context sensitive popup menu if related menu activities are available.
Popup menus provide access to essential operations. The menus are defined with each window
specification. If an object in the window is selected (by clicking the right mouse button), the context
sensitive menu for that object is activated. If no object is selected (by clicking the right mouse button),
the default popup menu for the window is opened.

The popup menu is also accessible by pressing the Shift+F10 keys or the special popup menu button
on Win95 keyboards. One item in the context sensitive menu can be a default item. It is indicated by
bold font. The operation behind a default item is activated by double-clicking the selected object with
the left mouse button. This corresponds to pressing the Enter key.

Keyboard Access

The keyboard can be used to control the manager. All functions of the manager are accessible using
the keyboard. Exception: clicking a list control column header to perform a sort operation.

The tab key is used to move the cursor in child windows and dialog boxes. The most frequently
used commands have short-cut keys.

Progress Indication

You must wait while the manager communicates with the node. The length of this delay depends on the
amount of information transferred. An hourglass is shown to indicate that an operation is expected to
take place in a relatively short time. A progress dialog box is shown to indicate a lengthy operation.
The manager provides as accurate information as possible about operation progression.

Progress dialog box

This is the default progress animation shown when a lengthy operation is running. The bottom of the
dialog box includes a progress bar and a percentage value showing progress.

Detailed Progress dialog box

You may expand this dialog box to show more detailed information about the operation in progress.
The expanded dialog box contains an additional text box that receives information about the currently
ongoing operation.

Measurements
The Measurements dialog box allows you to view measurements of an E1/T1 unit. The values are
read from the unit, when the dialog box is opened. The →LIF1 (LIF2, LIF3, LIF4) frame shows the
line measurements for each interface in read only fields. Besides manual refreshing also automatic
refreshing can be selected at specified intervals. If the value is zero, auto-refreshing is turned off.

Interface Loops
The Interface Loops dialog box allows you to view and set the status of interface loops. The status
of the interface loops is read from the node when the dialog box is opened. To set the status of an
interface loop, select the type of loop using the option buttons in the →Loop Type frame. Only one type
of loop can be active at a time. Once the new loop is activated, click the →Send button to send the
settings to the node and read the status from the node. The →Refresh button allows you to read the
status of interface loops from the node.

Alarms
The Alarms window allows you to view current alarms coming from the node and alarm history. The
window is divided into four views, Node Structure, Active Alarms, Alarm History, and Filters And
Command. The →Alarms window is only available in the connected mode. Alarms are read from the
node when the →Alarms window is opened. Alarm monitoring can be set to retrieve alarms from the
node after a certain time interval. Alarms are not stored permanently - they are deleted when the
→Alarms window is closed. If you wish, you can store alarms in a file by selecting the →File | Save
menu command. You can also print a list of alarms by selecting the →File | Print menu command.
The Print Preview function is also supported. You can also view alarm history (cleared alarms are
then shown in the list).
The Node Structure view shows the logical and hierarchical structure of the connected equipment. This
view acts as a location filter for the alarms or events. Any item in the tree can be selected to view the
active alarms and alarm history of that location. The colour of the alarm bell indicates the worst level of
severity of an alarm at the location.
