DESIGN CONCEPT

Collaborative community spaces play an important role in the success of a co-working space and the users of it. They become the
foundation to which those living and visiting in the area come together and communicate. Having a common place for people to
interact/collaborate and come together, creates a strong bond between the users. They offer opportunitites to embrace the history and
culture of the area and bring the community together using this common bond. The programme aims to enhance the social cohesion of the
community by providing an open public realm with landscaping to bring in the concept of an uban park into the building and to promote
nature within the urban cityscape. Also, surrounded by all the high rise concrete buildings, theres an open green roof which contrasts the
surrounding context.

SPACES
3.4 PROGRAMME AND PROJECT BRIEF
3.5 SITE RESPONSE / DESIGN DIAGRAMS
3.6 SPATIAL PROGRAMMING

The fourth floor is an open green

rooftop facing the main road where
users can go an relax/unwind.

Thrid floor is for the staff

accommodation
Second floor is the collaborative
centre where users will find rented
desks, private offices and co-working
spaces to work/collaborate.

First floor is the learning centre where

users can learn through books from
the library and discussion rooms and
through workshops also.

Ground floor acts as a public realm

with landscaping that attracts users. It
also has a cafe and an
exhibition/event area.

Basement serves as a carpark for the

whole building and can accommodate
24 vehicles.
4.0 ENVIRONMENTAL & TECHNOLOGICAL STRATEGIES
SUNLIGHT EXPOSURE
4.1 ENVIRONMENTAL STRATEGIES
Thanks to the surrounding buildings most part of the site is
completely shaded except for noon and evening time.

During morning time, the site is

completely shaded by the surrounding
buildings, thus cooling down the
temperature and allowing comfort.

The afternoon sun lights up the entire

building as it is not shaded, thus,
increases chance of visual exposure to
the pedestrians.

WIND ORIENTATION
The evening sun penetrates into the
building giving it warmth.
The direction of wind flow in the site is most prominent from
the South and South West. In order to achieve thermal
comfort by cooling the internal temperature of the building,
thorough orientation and allocation of openings are to be
considered upon the design process.
4.2 MATERIAL & RESOURCES

GLASS CURTAIN
TIMBER LOUVERS
WALL
Acts as a shading
To allow visual linkage
device for the
and transparency
building..
between spaces.

BRICK WALL

To give the building a contrast

from the surrounding concrete
buildings.

GREEN ROOF

Acts as a sustainable feature

of the building and gives a
place for the users to relax.
