Dear Sir/Madam,

My name is Tidar Albarkah, and I am an architect but not the ordinary one. Through this letter, I would like
to apply for a Master’s Degree program at Aarhus School of Architecture.

I am a visionary architect by taking concern in historical and socio-culture aspects. These aspects are my
significant interest. In my opinion, historical and socio-culture aspects create an experimental space
through built-environment. I implemented it to my final project, “Contemporary Art Community
Development Facility”, and, as the result, the project was awarded by “Excellent Design”, and I was
awarded as an Outstanding Student when I graduated from Parahyangan Catholic University, Bandung,
Indonesia, in 2016.

Further, I am passionate about urbanism. This passion was initiated through my time in college. When I
was in college, I involved in a research, namely “Aesthetic Formulation of Architectural Urban
Environment Based on Socio-monarchical Culture in the City of Cirebon and Special Province of
Yogyakarta – Indonesia” held by Ir. FX. Budiwidodo Pangarso, MSP., IAP, one of my lecturers. Through
this research, I learnt a lot about aesthetical aspect in urbanism. For the specific lesson that I learnt is that
urbanism does not only focus about the building, but also focus on the influence given by the relationship
between the society and local culture that shapes in its activities.

For an overview of myself, basically, I always try to synthesize logical thinking and intuitive approach as
well as analytical thinking and artistic approach in every single designing process. Through these
capabilities, I have made several achievements through local and international competitions. One of the
latest achievements is the Merit Award from the recent FuturArc Prize in 2017. Beside that architectural
activity, I also have interest in travelling and photography. These hobbies can help me to improve my
intuitive skill. I believe, not all problems can be solved solely by logic. Lots of problem also needs the role
of the intuitive skill to find the creative and innovative solutions.

I realize that I have to keep improving and developing myself by digging deeper in a program that can
provide me with the best resources and the best educational approach that is aligned with my passion
and interest in architecture. I find that Aarhus School of Architecture is one of the best architecture
schools in Denmark. And Denmark itself is a country that has a good social environment with a strong
culture where the level of attention to an aesthetic element in design is higher compared to other
countries.

To be more specific, I am very interested to apply for Studio 1C: Transformation. In my understanding,
Studio 1C: Transformation concentrates on how to manage the existing built environments in several
variety of scales and context, and how to push the students to make their own interpretation in many
areas, such as how to create a better environment through the historical context and socio-culture for the
future habitation. I note that this study is only provided by Aarhus School of Architecture. Thus, I am sure
that Aarhus School of Architecture can rightly provide me to achieve a lot of aspects at different level of
scale and also will become a place for me to grow up my character as a future architect.

Finally, I am very confident to be enrolled as an international student in Aarhus School of Architecture. I

am applying after carefully reviewing the educational programs. Since the teaching programs and
educational objectives in Aarhus School of Architecture complement my interests and requirements, I
believe that being a student in your school would not only empower my career development, but also
would give me the framework to utilize my full potentials in a meaningful way. I hope that I will be given an
opportunity to not only study at your school, but also to become fully absorbed in your planning
community.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
