Practical examples and case studies convert classroom-based learning into a deeper understanding of the subject. Our KS3
courses offer topics that benefit enormously from field study, such as landscapes, rivers, settlements, rocks and fossils.
All the equipment necessary for collecting data appropriate to the task is provided, plus activity sheets and an optional evening
session to summarise the day’s work.

PGL’s Maths courses make learning inspiring by applying maths in the context of adventure activities, enabling students to find
mathematical answers to how their world works.
Modules use practical, hands-on learning, supported by our ICT facilities, and relate to key aspects of the maths curriculum
programmes of study, such as mathematical reasoning and problem solving.

The major geological sites of Lulworth Cove, Chesil Beach and Durdle Door are all easily accessible,
along with an extensive section of the Jurassic Coast itself. The coastline, rivers and local landscapes
provide ideal material for comparative investigations, and the wide range of habitats enable in-depth
study of a variety of themes, such as the effect of farming on biodiversity, and freshwater pollution.
Maths, science and computing courses take place at the centre itself, using exciting study modules
which provide opportunities for a wide range of investigations.

The Isle of Wight
Known as England in miniature, the Isle of Wight is the perfect place for a study trip thanks to its rich
geographical diversity, an abundance of dinosaur fossils and its status as a tourist destination.
120 million years of deposition, folding and erosion have created a varied surface geology. A chalk
spine bisects the island from the Needles in the west to Culver cliffs in the east, and gives the island its
highest point at 240 metres. More than 50% of the island is designated an Area of Outstanding Natural
Beauty and a further 20% is deemed to be of Special Scientific Interest.
Downland, ancient woodland, wide beaches, rocky coves, chalk cliffs and estuaries provide a rich
learning environment where your students can develop and refine their investigative skills across a
range of subjects including biology, environmental science and geography.
Tourism on the island generates a considerable number of issues worthy of investigation, including the
conflict between wealth generation and conservation of wildlife habitats.
Maths, science and computing courses take place at the centre itself, using exciting study modules
which provide opportunities for a wide range of investigations.
