40Year Sabbath Neglect of Ezekiel 4:6
Fulfilled between Ezra1:1 & Nehemiah 2:1
If Ezra age was 30 in fi r s t
year of Cyrus, and his
age 70 when mentioned in book of
Nehemiah, then 40 years expired between
the rebuild decree of Ez1:1 and Neh2:1.
In the prophesy of Ezekiel chapter 4 are
given two specific time spans of sin. The
first was 390 years by the house of Israel
given in verse 4:5. This 390 years began in
Solomon latter years, 1Kgs11:4-6 and
ended with start of 70Y captivity. Jeremiah
specified how the Sabbath years were
neglected, see Jer.34:12-20&17:22-27.
...you have not listened unto me, in
proclaiming liberty, ... every man to his
neighbor: behold, I proclaim a liberty for
you, says the Lord, to the sword, to the
pestilence, and to the famine; and I will
make you to be removed into all the
kingdoms of the earth. Jeremiah 34:17
The 40 years of sin by Ezekiel 4:6 was
prophesied as being years of neglect of law
by the house of Judah. This time began with
the return from captivity, Ezra1:1 and ended
when Nehemiah returned. The sabbath
neglect between Ezr1:1 & Neh2:1 was
specifically noted here:
"In those days I saw people in Judah
treading wine presses on the Sabbath,
and bringing in sheaves, and loading
donkeys with wine, grapes, figs, and
all kinds of burdens, which they
brought into Jerusalem on the Sabbath
day. And I warned them about the day

Also Ezra3:2-8,&5:2, Neh12 places
Zerubbabel-the son of Shealtiel, in
Jerusalem with Ezra and with Nehemiah.
Zerubbabel, son of Shealtiel, is placed in the
rebuild by Hag1:1,12-14; 2:2, & 2:23. Again
to use the 40 year span for 'Zerubbabel-the
son of Shealtiel', from age 30 to 70, gives a
40 year span from "the first year of Cyrus
king of Persia, Ezr1:1", to 20th year of "the
month Nisan, in the 20th year of
Artaxerxes .. Neh2:1"

on which they were selling provisions.
[16] Men of Tyre dwelt there also, who
brought in fish and all kinds of goods,
and sold them on the Sabbath to the
children of Judah, and in Jerusalem.
[17] Then I contended with the nobles
of Judah, and said to them, "What evil
thing is this that you do, by which you
profane the Sabbath day? [18] Did not
your fathers do thus, and did not our
God bring all this disaster on us and
on this city? Yet you bring added wrath
on Israel by profaning the
Sabbath."...AND we would forego the
7th year's produce AND the exacting
of every debt. . Neh1:1, 2:1, 5:14,
9:21, :30, 10:29-31, &13:15,17
and in Ezra 3:12 we find this testimony to
the 70 years:
• But many of the priests and Levites and
chief of the fathers, who were ancient
men, that had seen the first house, when
the foundation of this house was laid
before their eyes, wept with a loud voice;
and many shouted aloud for joy:

Although Jones stated: "the Word of God is
its own commentary and thus contains
within itself all data necessary for its
complete chronology", then time after time
Jones drivels in secular chronology and in
his final analysis proposes a solution mired
in secular chronology, "both the Biblical and
secular data is found to be compatible".
I think the sacred chronology stands upon
the Solid Rock of Christ baptism date. To
venture off that point is to step upon sinking
sand. For there is no end to the study of
secular history. The 40Y of Ez4:6 where-in
Israel failed in Sabbath keeping is firmly
affixed between Ezra and Nehemiah. Only
when the God's people reformed to Sabbath
keeping under Nehemiah could the clock of
prophesy resume.
In summary there be 1000 years from
temple dedication by Solomon unto Christ
being dedicated to priestly service at age 30
by water and by word from heaven at John's
baptism. That being 69 weeks or 483 years,
plus 500 years of sin and redemption, and
17 years of Solomon's faithful life after
Temple dedication. These 500 years by
bible definition in 2Chr36:21&Lev24, exactly
70SabbathY(7Y/1SabbathY+1Y/7SabbathY)=490+10=500Y.
Being identical to Ezekiel's 390Y of past
Sabbath breaking plus 70 years rectitude
and a future 40Y of non-Sabbath
observance from Ezra to Nehemiah.
Jeremiah wittinesses against the whole
house of Israel while Nehemiah witnessed
against the redeemed.
In Christ we find that while we were formed
in sin He died not for the righteous but for
the unrighteous. You were redeemed and

absolved of all evil doings before they were
committed. Just as the 70 years captivity
absolved the 40 Y after the return.
Some sinking sands of conventional
chronology are: Wiki; with first year of
Cyrus, 539BC & 20th year of Artaxerxes
445 BCE when Nehemiah appointed
Governor of Yehud from Cupbearer in the
castle of Artaxerxes in Susa... then there be
39+55=94Y which would make Zerubbabel-
the son of Shealtiel, an amazing 114-124
years old for Zerubbabel-the son of
Shealtiel, was also counted by Nehemiah.
Nor does Ussher fit: for 536 - 455
=36+45=81Y, putting Zerubbabel-the son of
Shealtiel between 101Y and 111Y. Neither fit
the Ptolemaic years after Nebonassar:
Cyrus-Y1; 218Y: ArtaxerxesY20; (20+324) &
diff is 344-218=126Y, putting Zerubbabel-the
son of Shealtiel between 146Y and 156Y old
in Nehemiah time. The Ptolemy Canon was

Are not the Judaea residents who traveled
into Egypt with Jeremiah the: 'same
prophets, same sin, same people, same era
& same 40 years’, mentioned in Ez4:6? For
the life of Jeremiah ended with the obstinate
sinners who refused to go into the
Babylonian captivity. But the same word of
Jeremiah applied to the same people.
Namely that they would live under exile,
under same exile rulers as those who went
to Babylon. Furthermore a remnant would
return to Judea to live 40 years in sin. The
neglect of Sabbath keeping would last 40Y
until the reforms of Nehemiah.

cause the horn of the house of Israel to bud
forth, and I will give thee the opening of the

Then came the word of the Lord unto
Jeremiah in Tahpanhes, saying, Take
great stones in thine hand, and hide
them in the clay in the brickkiln, which
is at the entry of Pharaoh's house in

Israel; Behold, I will send and take
Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon,
my servant, and will set his throne

and such as are for captivity to

Yet a small number that escape the sword
shall return out of the land of Egypt into the
land of Judah, and all the remnant of Judah,
that are gone into the land of Egypt to
sojourn there, shall know whose words shall
stand, mine, or theirs. [29] And this shall be
a sign unto you, saith the Lord , that I will
punish you in this place, that ye may know
that my words shall surely stand against you
for evil: [30] Thus saith the Lord ; Behold, I
will give Pharaoh-Hophra king of Egypt into
the hand of his enemies, and into the hand
of them that seek his life; as I gave
Zedekiah king of Judah into the hand of
Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, his
enemy, and that sought his life. Jer44:28-30

Egypt at the time of the conquest by
Nebuchadrezzar (from Strong's Lexicon) 

Because secular history does not hold to the
conquest of Egypt by king of Babylon,
Nebuchadnezzar, it is in their minds that
scripture is invalid. Betwixt the two they ner
meet either. I once read from a secularist, "if
you hold to the bible we have nothing to
discuss."
Again the position espoused here is the time
from end of the 70 years under Cyrus unto
the reform under Nehemiah in 20th year of
Artaxerxes the king, (Neh2:1) are the 40
years spoken by Ezekiel. Also these 40
years are encompassed in 500 years, and

Messiah.

Finally, Ezekiel’s last 40 years remind us

that, In Christ, it not our past but our future
we concern ourselves with and laying aside
every weight and sin that can drag us
backwards with this one thing.. forgetting
the past and strive forward to the upward
call of God in Christ… and at His coming we
be found worthy as polished gems to adorn
our prince… having run the race in
perfection.
