are driven to provide our residents and businesses with the highest quality services,
delivered in the most cost-effective way.

Bright was the key word for our Luminaria celebration! Residents of all ages came
out to enjoy our annual event on December 7, where our holiday tree was draped in
thousands of bright, white lights. On behalf of the Village Board of Trustees, I would
like to express our sincere appreciation to all those who helped to continue this
34-year Streamwood tradition including Cheryl Dahl-Kearney and family,
Dee’s Catering, Streamwood High School Choir, Spotlight
Performance Company, and the many schools, businesses, civic and scouting
groups, individuals and families who decorated our parkways and helped at Village
Hall.

A note of thanks also goes to the many people who helped make the holiday season
bright for those less fortunate in our community. The Village hosted its annual
Holiday Helping Program. This program gives children from local disadvantaged
families an opportunity to shop for Christmas gifts at the Streamwood Super
Target store, accompanied by Streamwood police officers and firefighters.
Volunteers made sure the gifts were wrapped just in time for the holidays. We offer
our grateful appreciation to the dozens of businesses, individuals and volunteers,
who helped to make this a truly happy holiday for these families. Many people also
dropped off donations at the Village Hall, and other locations throughout town, for
the Kiwanis Club’s coat drive, Hanover Township’s toy drive, and Township food
pantry. Thank you for your generosity and willingness to help.

Although the holidays are behind us, please consider giving one additional gift – the
gift of life! The Streamwood Blood Commission will be hosting its first drive of the
year on January 23, between 1:00-7:00 pm, at Village Hall.

The entire Board of Trustees would like to wish you and your family a happy, healthy
and prosperous New Year!

Veterans Day

The playing of Taps generally ends our annual Veterans Day ceremony, but this year it served as our
opening to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Armistice Day. On November 11, 1918, at 11:00
am, a cease fire was called that would mark the end of World War I. To recognize this historic day,
groups around the world played Taps at 11:00 am. Although it was bitterly cold, hundreds of people
gathered to honor, remember, and give thanks to those who have served our country with pride.

Cultures of Our Community

A celebration of the diversity that unites us was on display on November 3 as our Community Relations Commission
presented its annual Cultures of Our Community event. Performances included dancers from South America, Mexico,
America, India, Egypt, and more.
