The aim has been to present magic squares to the student in such a way as to make them interesting and understandable. The following features are designed to encourage his interest and arouse his desire to pursue the study. The approach to the subject and to the various topics is primarily psy- chological, but with due regard to the logical development. Care has been taken to arrange the material in such a way as not to discourage the student by introducing difficult topics too early in the study or by presenting more than one type of difficulty at a time. General suggestions are offered to help the stu- dent understand the principles and their use. The purpose is to stimulate the student to depend more upon himself and less upon others, since this is a self- study course.
