Dear friends,

here we are at the beginning of a brand-new year. For many it

will be a time of making New Year resolutions. A time when we
hope to make some changes in our lives for the better. Whether
it be to lose a bit of weight, eat more healthily or even exercise,
our intentions are good. Some people may be considering
making some changes that will affect not only themselves but
also other people’s lives. Perhaps to smile and greet people, to
be more patient or to strive to listen better. It is the simple things
can make a huge difference to the people we live with, work
with or come into contact with.

The Gospel stories tell of how Jesus went that extra mile to come alongside people. He took
time to listen to them, to be available and to reach out and touch their lives for the better. I
wonder what sort of world it would be if each of us followed the example Jesus gave. Perhaps
a good place to start would be to follow the prayer of St. Francis and make it our resolution for
2019:

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,

Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is doubt, faith,
Where there is despair, hope,
Where there is darkness, light;
Where there is sadness, joy;

O Divine Master
Grant that I may not so much seek
To be consoled as to console;
To be understood as to understand;
To be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life

On behalf of the Ministry Team in the Coxheath Benefice, may I wish you all a blessed and
peaceful New Year.

Reverend Eileen
