A PRAYER FOR REVIVAL

2 Chronicles 7:14
If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face
and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin
and heal their land.

As we find ourselves in a new year, we have many reasons to be thankful and

hopeful. One of my hopes and prayers is revival for the church. One of the chief
concerns we have as Christians is the decline in the church across the world. Cultural
and religious changes have even caused our churches to struggle locally. This is a
problem because our hope is for people to come into a saving relationship with Jesus
Christ.
Revival is a distinctly Holy Spirit led event. The church has experienced many
revivals in history. I believe our expectation should be that God will revive his church
yet again, and it will be such an event that no one can deny God at work. As your pastor
that is my hope and expectation for Calvary-Asbury and St. Paul’s.
However, revival, even though it does seemingly come out the blue and surprise
us, does have some distinct reasons it occurs. First and foremost, revival is sparked by
obedience to God. Obedience is when we give up our will and our desires in exchange
for God’s will and God’s desires. Obedience is when we turn our whole self to the Word
of God and its teachings and commit ourselves to being true disciples. Obedience is when
we listen intently for God’s direction and discern his will for us.
So here is my prayer for our church for the coming year. I hope you
also will join me and make it your prayer as well.

First, I pray for God to revive our sense of urgency to see

people saved from the eternal grave. I pray for God to revive in us
the Great Commission where Jesus commanded his disciples to go out “I believe that
into all the world and make disciples of all the nations. I pray that making this our

Second, I pray that God would revive our passion for the Holy Spirit to
studying the scriptures. I pray that we would be so in love with God bring revival
that we can’t help but dive into the Bible each and every day. I pray among us. May
the scriptures would be our true foundation and that we would turn revival be our

Pastor
we will recognize the power of prayer to change the course of our
history – how God can break through into world. God can heal, Eric Warner
rebuild, restore, and revive us if we go to him in prayer. I pray that
our prayer life would reflect our complete trust in God for all our
needs.
Fourth, I pray that God will revive our desire for fellowship.
We can read in Acts 2 that the early church everyday fellowshipped
to together by eating, worshipping, and spending time with one
another. I pray that God would build up a sense of comradery among
us – an understanding that we are truly brothers and sisters in Christ.
I also pray that we would be able to make all who walk through the
doors of our church and everyone we meet in our communities feel
welcome – that they would experience Christ’s love through us.

I believe that making this our prayer may lay the foundation
for the Holy Spirit to bring revival among us. May revival be our
hope for 2019 and may obedience to God be our personal mission.
Amen.

MISSIONARIES NATHAN & OLIVIA CULVER
Dear Ministry Partner,
We want to thank you for your faithful
support of this ministry during 2018!
We are so blessed to have you on the
team. We are so excited to be moving in
January to begin learning the Punjabi’s
language and culture so that they can
finally hear a clear explanation of God’s
love for them. It is because of your
faithful sacrifice for God’s kingdom
that this is a possibility. Thank you for
praying and partnering. We look
forward to the years to come of sharing
with you how God is working among
the Punjabi. God bless and have a
wonderful 2019.
Merry Christmas,

BOARD OF CHILD CARE-DENTON, MD

Dear Sudlersville UMC, December 2018
Thank you for helping to make Christmas special for your newest
admission. This young man was most appreciative as he did not
expect to receive gifts this year since he just arrived. Your kindness
helps to enrich the lives of the youth we serve. He had no idea
what to expect and was overwhelmed with your generosity.
The Denton Staff & Youth

Thanks to both Calvary-Asbury & St. Paul’s

for the Christmas gifts and also to the
individuals who went out of their way to bring
in gifts and treats.
My family and I are very appreciative!

Calvary-Asbury's missions, scholarships and special offerings

and the leadership of the church. The following offerings and
support were provided in 2018:

Camp Pecometh camperships - $600 "Each of you should give
UMM college scholarships - $2500

Connectional & Annual Conference Giving: $1846 reluctantly or under
10% tithe of Fundraisers - $1065 compulsion, for God loves
(Given equally to Haven's Ministry, Deep Roots, and

Total: $7714

Although most of these funds come from individual giving or

fundraising and not from the church budget, the total given to

13% of Calvary-Asbury's budget.

Thank you for giving from your heart and leading this church
in supporting our community and its missions.
