Question 2.
a) A point charge of 5x10-6 experiences a force of 2x10-3 N when kept in a uniform electric field
of intensity E. Find E. [2]
b) Obtain an expression for the intensity of electric field in end on position, i.e, axial position.

Question 3.
a) Derive an expression for the capacitance of a parallel-plate capacitor in terms of the area of
the plates and the distance between them. Assume there is a vaccume in between the plates
with the electric field between the plate E=s/ε0. [3]
b) Find the equivalent capacitance between the points A and B in the given circuit.(p-153)

a) Calculate the electric current density in a uniform wire connected to a battery of emf 3.5V
and negligible internal resistance. The resistance of the wire is 2Ω and its area of cross section
is 0.70x10-6m2. [3]

b) A 100W-220V bulb is connected to a 110V DC source. Calculate the power consumed by the
bulb. [2]

a) Obtain an expression for the magnetic flux density B at the centre of a circular coil of
radius R having N turns when a current i flows through the coil. [2]
b) The below figure shows a point P near a long conductor XY carrying a current i, MN is a
short current-carring conductor, kept at the point P, parallel to the conductor XY.
i)what is the direction of magnetic flux density B at the point P due to the current flowing
through XY?
ii)what is the direction of the force experienced by the conductor MN due to the current

a) An emf of 2V is induced in a coil when current in it is changed from 0 to 10A in 0.40s.Find
the coefficient of self-inductence of the coil. [3]
b) When the primary of a transformer is connected to a 120VAC mains, the current in the
primary is 18.5mA.Find the voltage across the secondary when it delivers 1.5 mA current
through it, assuming the transformer to be an ideal one.state any one type of energy loss in
transformer. [2]
Question 7.
a) Draw a well-labelled LCR circuit and derive expression for impendence of the circuit and
resonant frequency with diagram for both of them. [3]
b) A 50µF capacitor, a 30Ω resistor and a0.7H inductor are connected in series to an AC supply
which generates an emf e given by e=300sin(200t)volt. Calculate the peak value of the current
flowing through the circuit. [2]

Question 8.
a)On the basis of the Huygens’ wave theory, show that when light is incident on a plane
mirror obliquely,angle of reflection is equal to angle of incidence. [2]

b)On the basis of Huygens’ wave theory, prove snell’s law of refraction of light. Draw a neat
and labelled diagram stating the postulates of Huygen wave theory. [3]
Question 9.
a) In young’s double-slit experiment, using light L1 of wavelength 700nm, 10th bright fringe was
obtained at a certain point P on the screen. Which bright fringe will be obtained at the same
point P, if light of wavelength 500nm is used in place of L1.(No other alternation were made
in the experimental set up.) [2.5]
b) The diffraction of light due to a single slit is being observed in the laboratory. What will be
the effect on the diffraction pattern, if (i)light of smaller wavelength is used.(ii)Slit is made
narrower and (iii)another parallel slit be made close to the first slit. [2.5]

a) A ray of light falls on an isosceles right-angled triangular prism ABC ( AB=AC) and travels
as shown .What is the refractive index of the material of the prism. [3]

index=1.5) at an angle of incidence i=550.if it emerges through the adjescent face AC.
Calculate the angle of emergence ‘e’. Sin550=0.8192, sin33.10=0.5461. [2]

Question 11.
a) The below figure shows a parallel beam of light incident on a convex spherical surface,
radius of 30cm, which separate glass (refractive index=1.6) from air. Find the position of the
image formed due to refraction of light at this single spherical surface. [2.5]

b) The below figure show the positions of a point object O, two lenses , a plane mirror and a
final image I which coincides with the object .The focal length of the convex lens is 20cm.
Calculate the focal length of the concave lens. [2.5]

Question 12.
a) A compound microscope consists of an objective of focal length 2cm and an eye-pieace of
focal length 5cm.When an object is kept 2.4cm from the objective, final image formed is
virtual and is at 25cm from the eye pieace. Determine magnifying power of this compound
microscope. [3]
b) Light of wavelength 198nm is incident on the surface of a metal, whose work function is
2.5eV.Calculate the stopping potential. [2]
Question 13.
a) Explain the production of X-Ray by Coolidge tube with help of a diagram. How are the
intensity and the penetrating power of the X-Ray controlled in this. [3]
b) With the help of a diagram explain photoelectric effect. [2]
Question 14.
a) Half life of a certain radioactive substance is 6hrs.If you had 3.2kg of this substance in the
beginning .How much of it will disintegrate in one day. [2.5]

b) Energy level of H atom are given by E(n)= (-13.6/n )eV, where n is Principle Quantum
number. Calculate the wave length of electromagnetic radiation emitted by hydrogen atom
resulting from the transition . n=2 to n=1 [2.5]
