Since 2007, the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ has positioned kiosks throughout downtown in an
effort to help Winnipeggers discover and explore Winnipeg’s distinct urban culture. These
kiosks were initially designed for use by retailers for a Vendor Village Program at Air Canada
Park. When that program winded down, they were then adapted for reuse by the BIZ’s mar-
keting department.
Serviced and operated by the BIZ’s Customer Service Team, the kiosks are stocked with
relevant downtown information (transit service time maps, downtown maps, etc.) and BIZ
marketing materials (restaurant guides, magazines, walkway map, other BIZ programs and
services). Kiosks also provide the Customer Service Team with a visual point of entry for
public to engage in surveys/market research and to obtain information about downtown.
GOALS
• To promote the unique downtown offerings and attractions in order to attract people
downtown, create positive perceptions of the city centre, and encourage downtown
use of shopping, services, dining, and entertainment
• To evaluate and research best practice with respect to mobile and permanent kiosks
design/use and positioning throughout downtown
• To implement a long-term strategy that will see both mobile kiosks and permanent
kiosks located throughout downtown, with support from private sector
OBJECTIVES
• Create 3 mobile kiosks to be used by the Customer Service Team in summer of 2015
• Design a survey for public and stakeholders to provide feedback about the kiosks
(information to be used to create vision for long-term kiosk program)
DESIGN SUBMISSION CRITERIA
Designers are asked to submit visual renderings and designs that meet the project
goals and objectives above. Designs will also need to consider and reconcile the following
