MMMI

The MMMSL was invited by the Sierra Leone Mission to do a two days Health Expo at 55
“Corner Kick” at the outcast of Waterloo, the Rural area of Freetown the capital city of Sierra
Leone. Day one started at 12:00 noon with the registration of 100 people. The expo
attracted so many people (including police officers stationed adjacent to the expo site) who
are very eager to seek medical attention.

Objective
The main objective of the Health Expo was to support the SDA Church in Waterloo as they
embark on a two week evangelistic campaign.

Expo Activities:

All our activities were based on eight simple principles of “NEWSTART Lifestyle Program.” Using
HEALTH EDUCATION RESOURCES (HER) materials. The Principles are NUTRITION, EXERCISE,
WATER, SUNLIGHT, TEMPERANCE, REST AND TRUST IN GOD. Each point bears its part giving
complete health. MMM members were divided into nine groups including the
registration/orientation table.

variety of fruits, vegetables, grains, and nuts to prevent many diseases. He also demonstrated on how to
use activated charcoal to detoxify the body. Different types of fruits and vegetables are displayed on
the table.
EXERCISE
Weights and heights of patients were taken to enable the team to assess their Body Mass Index (BMI).
Patients who were overweight are advised on which diet they should be on in order to loose some
weight. The officer in charge of the police station (pictured above) who had stroke was also advised on
plant-based diet. Patients were asked to do more exercise as part of good health. A demonstration of
how exercise should be done was undertaken by the MMM personnel together with the patients.
Water
Because the body is 70% water, keeping well hydrated and knowing what and when to drink was the
message to our clients. Hydrotherapy treatment was applied to our clients with different aliments.

Temperance
Using good things moderately and avoiding the bad was obviously our message to the people of 55,
Waterloo. According to Galatians 5:22,23 Temperance can be neither bought nor earned, but is rather
an important gift of God, a “fruit of the Sprit”

Air
The importance of getting fresh air daily has been emphasized here by the MMM personnel. The team
emphasized on indoor air pollution, which can be a source of cold, flu, sore throats, headaches, asthma
and other respiratory problems. Patients were advised that it is important to open windows and keep
the air circulating.
Rest

Trust
MMM personnel from the trust booth were engaged in distributing tracts to patients and advising them
to put their trust in God for everything they encounter in life.
HEALING WITH SIMPLE REMEDIES
In another engagement, a patient with epileptic was treated for sores using
garlic, onion and charcoal.
