COMBAT FASCISM!

  
A false national emergency in order to circumvent the
democratic process is the trademark step in transforming a
liberal democracy into a full fledged authoritarian fascist state.
Emergency powers grant the president unilateral executive
authority to enact policies across a broad swath of issues.
Used previously to intern Japanese Americans during WW2, to
justify the continued mass surveillance of American citizens
after 9/11, to suspend writ of Habeus Corpus during the Civil
War or in other words, always against the interests of innocent,
working-class people.

A fabricated national emergency today could result in this

administration seizing power over US internet communications,
interning even more immigrants (regardless of citizenship
status) in concentration camps, freezing the bank accounts of any person or institution
they consider a threat etc. To believe that someone of Trump’s temperament and
political inclination is above abusing such powers is sheer ​naiveté​, if anything it’s more
a question of when.

In the waning days of the Weimar Republic, shortly after Hitler was appointed to the
position of Chancellor, Nazis used a state of emergency after the Reichstag Fire to
nullify civil liberties and consolidate power, eventually passing the Enabling Act of 1933
allowing laws to be passed without input of the Reichstag (the lower house). Ultimately
this led to the liquidation of the Republic and in the rise of the Third Reich. The
similarities in the current moment, as Trump, by use of a racialized ethnic scapegoat,
aims to circumvent the lower house and rule unilaterally, are too blatant to ignore.

Democrats, like appeasers of yesteryear, have proven themselves incapable of

combatting this fascistic threat, outright enabling it at times. They lay the blame solely at
Trump’s feet, ignoring the capitalist system that allows, even encourages, a person like
Trump to gain power. There is no shortage of megalomaniacal, prejudiced sociopaths in
the GOP. If it hadn’t been Trump, this would’ve happened regardless. The problem lies
within an socio-economic structure neither party nor their corporate masters wants
disrupted, and so the onus falls on us, workers who produce value daily in service to
these corporate elites, to disrupt this system, revolt against it and move forward
together to build one that serves the interests of the people!
