Beowulf and Grendel

Beowulf is an Old English epic story consisting of thousands alliteration lines. It may be the
oldest surviving long story in Old English; commonly cited as one of the most important works of Old
English Literature.
The first time I heard about Beowulf and Grendel I thought it was dull that I will just feel sleepy
and bored. The title is not that bad, but it is very effortless and simple, the name of the Hero and Villain is
a common title for a movie, yet still, I was amazed about the animation, the effect really caught my eye, it
was amazing for an old movie. The characters looks like half real human and half cartoon. To be honest,
some scenes are ferocious, aggressive and can affect the audience. As an audience I like how Beowulf
offered himself to attack Grendel, he volunteered to be the savior and the hero of the kingdom. Beowulf
put other people’s life first before his own, he’s not even afraid of his own death, and there are some
scene that I can’t understand because of their accent, the words should have pronounced properly and
very clear, the movie is still good and nice! The hero, which is Beowulf, a great example for the people,
he is willing to sacrifice his life for everyone.
The first battle happened between Beowulf and Grendel, it happened because of King Hrothgar
constructed a great hall called Heorot for himself and his warriors. In it, he, his wife Queen Wealhtheow,
and his warriors spend their time singing and celebrating. Grendel, a troll-like monster is pained by the
sound of joy. Grendel attacks the hall and kills and devours many of King Hrothgar's warriors while they
sleep. King Hrothgar and his people, helpless against Grendel, abandon Heorot. Beowulf heard about
King Hrothgar’s problem and with his king’s permission leaves his homeland to look after King
Hrothgar. Beowulf and his men decided to spend their night in Heorot. He refuses to use weapon to be the
equal of the troll-like monster. Grendel enters the hall and Beowulf who has been feigning sleep, leaps up
to clench Grendel’s hand. They fought vigorously. Beowulf tears Grendel's arm from his body at the
shoulder and Grendel runs to his home and his Mother will seek for revenge. The first battle is quite quick
and surprising, I didn’t expected Beowulf can do that. He even refuses to use weapon, I was astonished
for his bravery, and he did great! He fights equally and no biased, at first I thought Beowulf is going to be
hurt brutally, the opposite happened. When I watch the victory, they’re really celebrating with full of joy
in their eyes and with their actions. They must be really proud of Beowulf and surprised as well.
After the first battle, Beowulf doesn’t think that there might be a much furious unexpected battle
with Grendel’s mother. The nest after their celebrating, King Hrothgar and his men sleep in the Heorot.
Grendel’s mother, angry and hurt that her son has been killed she sets out to get revenge. "Beowulf was
elsewhere. Earlier, after the award of treasure, The Geat had been given another lodging"; his assistance
would be absent in this battle. Grendel’s mother killed the most trusted and loyal warrior of King
Hrothgar brutally. King Hrothgar, Beowulf and their alliance track Grendel’s mother place, her lair under
a lake, a warrior who doubted him handed over his sword to Beowulf. Beowulf and Grendel’s Mother
engage in a fierce combat. Just like in the first battle, Beowulf show his bravery and he is persistent to be
savior of the great hall built by King Hrothgar. When Beowulf and Grendel’s mother talked, I didn’t
understand the whole conversation, why? Because of the poor voice pronunciation, and the accent is not
that good, the animation helped a lot to catch my attention.
Beowulf returns home and eventually becomes king of his own people. One day, fifty years after
Beowulf's battle with Grendel' mother, someone stole something from Beowulf, the most difficult battle
happenedand when the dragon sees the golden cup has been stolen, it leaves its cave in rage, burning
everything in sight. Everyone fights with the dragon, Beowulf decided to fight the dragon alone. He fights
with the dragon, one of his men helped, the two slay the dragon, but Beowulf is mortally and brutally
wounded. Beowulf dies, and Wiglaf stay by his side, when their men finally return, Wiglaf blamed the
warriors, blaming their cowardice for Beowulf's death. Subsequently, Beowulf is ritually burned on a
great pyre in Geatland while his people wail and mourn him, fearing that without him, the Geats are
defenseless against attacks from surrounding tribes. Afterwards, a barrow, visible from the sea, is built in
his memory.
Beowulf died with his heroism, he is a true man who’s willing to sacrifice himself to save the
people he loves. His greatness will remain to the heart and memories of the people. After I watched the
Beowulf and Grendel, I realized that our real life needs a man who is strong enough to fight for us. Not in
the way fighting with monsters, but a man that is strong enough to save us from our own emotional
problem. 20th century has a lot of problem when it comes to government, life, and emotional thoughts,
imagine having a Beowulf version 2.0 in our real world, it would be really nice and good. Beowulf is a
hero with a pure and good heart and strong mind.

THE MOVIE
 Beowulf
The movie is good, it has a good heroism and bravery. The movie shows a strength of a
man who did everything for his kingdom and people. Beowulf served his people with honesty,
he stays consistent, he is real to his words that he’s going to make their kingdom safe. He
foought a lot of battle. He faced a monster. Beowulf is not afraid of antything, even death. He
can sacrifice his life to fulfill his promise for everyone. King Hrothgar was a great warrior in his
time, but now he's an old king and can't seem to protect his people. Fortunately, a young Geat
warrior named Beowulf travels to Heorot Hall from his own lands overseas to lend a helping
hand—literally. The kindness of Beowulf helped a lot. Beowulf explained that he owes King
Hrothgar a favor because King Hrothgar helped out his father, Beowulf offers himself to fight
Grendel alone and the King gracefully accepted his offer, next time Grendel attacks Heorot Hall,
Beowulf is waiting for him. Choosing to fight Grendel in hand-to-hand combat, Beowulf wrestles
the demon into submission and eventually tears off his arm at the shoulder. Mortally wounded,
Grendel flees into the wilderness and dies. Beowulf, King Hrothgar, and their followers throw a
party to celebrate. King Hrothgar also gives Beowulf many presents and treasures to reward
him for his heroic defeat of the demon, sad to say Grendel has an overprotective Mother who
decides to make revenge for her son. Beowulf dives into the lake and finds the cave, where he
takes on Grendel's mother in another one-on-one battle. Grab a nearby sword from Grendel's
mother's stash of treasure, he slays her, even though her poisonous demon blood melts the
blade. When Beowulf returns to the surface, carrying the sword hilt and Grendel's severed
head, the Danish warriors have given him up for dead, but his own Geatish followers are still
waiting patiently. When everyone sees that Beowulf has survived this second challenge, there's
even more partying and gift-giving. Beowulf show off his strength and his will of fire. Everyone is
flattered for what Beowulf did. He became the King of the Heorot. One day, Beowulf finally
meets his match, it is quite intense, but a little bit hard to understand, and the sound effect is
poor. A dragon, the dragon is woken by a thief stealing a goblet, the dragon begins attacking the
kingdom. Beowulf first fight his men but he decided to fight by himself. Beowulf reached his goal
to kill the dragon, but he is mortally wounded. After his death, Beowulf, the kingdom created a
statue-like for his heroism. When Beowulf died, Wiglaf stay by his side, he is the loyal warrior of
Beowulf, he blamed the people for their cowardice. Everyone is now afraid because the best
King is dead. They’re worried about who will be their savior, he was killed with his heroism.
For me, having a people like Beowulf will help us to have a good community, why?
Having a good leader will have a good follower, a leader who will do everything for his kingdom
to make sure it’s safe. Beowulf is a real hero. He deserves to be honored.
In the film, I can say that it has a poor quality of voice editing, because some of them is
not properly pronounced.
