INFORMATION PACKET
SHI Integrative Medical Massage School (SHI) is a private, professional school founded in 1980 and was
approved in 1981 by the Ohio State Medical Board to officially accept it’s first class of students, issue diplomas
to it’s graduates, and prepare them to legally sit for the State of Ohio Medical Board
administered medical licensure exam in Massage Therapy.
SHI believes the fundamental purpose of education is to nurture the inherent possibilities of each unique,
individual student. Our faculty view massage therapy education as a blend of sensitivity and scientifically
grounded practice. Learning at SHI acquaints the individual learner not only with the academic disciplines
required to become a licensed massage therapist in the State of Ohio, but also nurtures the learner in
healthy personal growth. SHI believes learning requires an active multi-sensory engagement of
students and faculty in a learning environment that empowers them to reach for excellence.
Our seasoned faculty teach the following: Swedish Massage, Palpatory Sensitivity, Ethics, Cranial Sacral
Therapy, Deep Tissue Therapy (Myofascial, Myoneural and Positional Release), Pain Management, Assessment
& Treatment of Acute and Chronic Disorders, Hydrotherapy, Treatment of Temporal Mandibular Joint
Dysfunction and Massage with Diverse Populations.

Massage Therapy is meaningful work in which you can make a difference in the
quality of life for others and yourself. Never sell yourself short by settling for
less than a high quality education. Your education is an investment in your future.
1. Learn as much as you can about the profession of massage therapy in Ohio.
2. Read the Scope of Practice governing the licensure and practice of massage
therapy in Ohio. Go to our State of Ohio Medical Board Link.
3. The school should encourage and/or facilitate your talking with any current
student or graduates of your choosing (not just those picked by the school.)
4. Insist on seeing accurate pass/fail rates on State Licensure Exam scores for
first time examinees for the last three years from all schools. This
information is also available through the State of Ohio Medical Board
offices.
5. Talk with faculty who teach at the schools you are considering and discuss
curriculum, classroom hours, their training, and philosophy about education.
Ask for the names of the instructors.
6. Attend an orientation or open house, tour the school and ask to visit a
regularly scheduled class.
7. Receive a massage from a graduate of the school you are considering or visit
their clinic and schedule a student massage.
8. Discuss tuition and all cost involved in your whole education, financial plans,
refund policies, and make sure these are in writing. There should be no small
print, "hidden" cost, or long term debt for your education.
9. Learn which organizations or approval/accrediting bodies with which the
schools are affiliated and for how long.
10. Find out how long the school has existed. Contact the State of Ohio Medical
Board for information about the school. Contact the Better Business Bureau
to find out about their standing in the community.
11. Ask yourself which school more closely represents your professional goals an
is a good match with your personality. On which campus do you feel most
comfortable?
Geography and a school's advertising budget are probably two of the worst ways
in which to select a school..... however tempting they may be!
