Replacing a RCD 500 (Premium 7) Radio

with a RNS 510 in a 2009 VW Tiguan

Old RCD 500 New RNS 510

Step 1: Step 2:

Make sure you have everything you need: Identify connections on back of RNS 510:
A. One (1) RNS 510 Head-Unit with Unlock Code A. Radio Antenna Connection (Cream)
B. One (1) RNS 510 Manual B. GPS Antenna Connection (Blue)
C. One (1) GPS Antenna C. Main Harness (Tv-in-Motion) Connection
D. One (1) Radio Antenna Adapter
E. One (1) Tv-in-Motion Unit (Optional)
-if your passenger wants to watch movies
while you drive. ;o)
F. One (1) Dull Kitchen Knife (not pictured)
-for prying off the fascia.
G. One (1) Thin Clean Cloth (not pictured)
-to wrap the knife so not to scratch fascia.
H. One (1) Torx Head Screwdriver (not pictured)
I. Make Sure Your Car Ignition is OFF and you
do not insert your key at anytime during this
procedure.

Step 3: (Skip this step if you do not have a TV-in-Motion Unit)

This end connects to the back of the RNS 510


Identify connections on the
TV-in-Motion Unit:

Align and slide the connector into the back of the RNS 510, and
close 90 Deg. Clip

Step 4:

Cover kitchen knife with cloth The four (4) clips of the cardholder are pictured above.
and gently pry the cardholder out: This should help you place your knife while prying.

Step 5:

The four (4) clips of the air-bag light are pictured above.
Cover kitchen knife with cloth
This should help you place your knife while prying.
and gently pry the air-bag light out:
(do not pull out all the way, it is connected
with wires in the back)

Step 6: Step 7:

Remove the exposed screws Cover kitchen knife with cloth


with your torx head screwdriver: and gently pry the fascia off:
(Remember to always cover your knife
with the cloth when prying, I got over
anxious and caused a little nick in the fascia,
indicated by the smaller arrow) :o(
- I fixed it later though.

Step 8:

Cover kitchen knife with cloth and This will release the fascia entirely. Just pull straight out
gently pry the hazzard light tab over and rest on top of dash, remember not to pull the air-bag

remove them with your torx head screwdriver.

Step 9:

Check to see if A/C vent arms were To remedy, just reconnect this ball-joint.

Step 10: Step 11:

Gently and slowly pull the radio out Release antenna connections and
to expose the antenna and main main harness connection:

Sit back and admire the large open hole you

Go and get the RNS 510!

Step 12:

Connect Tig’s Wire Harness to RNS 510: If you have the TV-in-Motion, connect the wire harness
pictured at left to this TV-in-Motion connector above.

If not, connect the wire harness pictured at left directly


to the back of the RNS 510.

The TV-in-Motion wires are pretty long so I


wrapped it around the Main Harness and
used a black zip tie to secure.

Step 13: Step 14:

Step 15:

Find a good place for the GPS Puck Antenna, Tuck in All Wires
so they aren’t in the way, and gently slide the RNS 510 into the opening:

REVERSE THE REMOVAL STEPS AND FINISH THE INSTALLATION:

(Remember to do things gently and slowly, if you have to force something
