The Second Sunday in Ordinary Time
Greetings of Peace.
If you ask any leader of a nonprofit organization in Boston what their biggest organizational challenge is, almost all of
them will say the same thing: recruiting and retaining staff to do the work of the organization. St. Anthony Shrine is no
exception. The shortage of housing for the middle class contributes to the problem, as does the strong economy in
Greater Boston. We also compete for staff with powerhouse nonprofits with strong national reputations. (We nod to
our friends at Harvard and MGH!)
How do we solve this problem? The short-term solution is to let the position sit vacant. Then we go through the
vacant position’s job description and make decisions: which work can be done by someone else in the organization
which work simply won’t be done at all? The staff at the Shrine are always very gracious about flexibility in their
roles, and for that we are very grateful. Occasionally, we hire contractors to fill roles as well.
Currently, we have four positions that are either open now, or will be this spring. Perhaps you have interest these
positions, or know someone who does. Please have the interested person notify us via email: hr@stanthonyshrine.org
and note that we are accepting inquiries for these positions via this email address only. We make every attempt to
provide competitive wages and benefits.
Maintenance worker in the Facilities Department. This position could be part-time or full-time. This person would
be doing light mechanical work, painting, and system-monitoring at the Shrine, an eleven-story building, among other
things.
Bookkeeper in the Finance Department. Full-time. This person maintains financial records of the Shrine.
Experience as a bookkeeper is required. Experience in a nonprofit would be a plus.
Director of the Seniors Program. Three to eight hours per week. This position requires the ability to communicate
well, provide pastoral care to Seniors, do some light paperwork, and use a desktop computer. Must be able to work
morning/middays on some Wednesdays.
Administrative Assistant. Part-time. This person would do office work at the Shrine, working with the Managing
Director and the Executive Director. Hours are flexible.
