THE TEACHING OF READING AND LISTENING

I. COURSE DESCRIPTION

The course aims to impart principles of reading and listening comprehension, the ability
to teach a lesson in reading and a lesson in listening comprehension, and experience
and practice in both types, using texts that correspond to the teaching at different levels.
Also, it is designed to give strategies for teaching reading and listening in the content
areas and information on how to use reading and listening strategies for all students.

II. COURSE OBJECTIVES

A. GENERAL:

The course aims to equip students with communication skills suitable for their academic
purposes. It is further meant to develop in students skills necessary for effective
communication in business and life in general.

B. SPECIFIC:

At the end of the semester, the students shall be able to:

a. Demonstrate an understanding of the importance of teaching students how to read

to learn through journal writing and discussion.
b. Synthesize research on the interactive elements of reading, strategic processing,
and strategic teaching through the design and application of instructional activities.
c. Explore your curriculum and analyze how you can incorporate reading-to-learn
strategies.
d. Create, implement, and reflect on a content area activity that incorporates a
vocabulary strategy, an informal text strategy, or a reflection strategy.
