A DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE GRADE 11 (GENERAL CHEMISTRY)

I. Objectives: At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

a. recognize that substances are made up of smaller particles(STEM_GC11MP-Ia-b-1)
b.describe and/or make a representation of the arrangement, relative
spacing, and relative motion of the particles in each of the three phases of
matter.( STEM_GC11MP-Ia-b-2)

II. Content:
Specific Topic: Matter and its Properties
Concepts to be learned 1. The particulate nature of matter
2. States of matter a. the macroscopic b. microscopic view
Materials: Laptop, Pointer, Projector, Mini Boards, Board Marker

Values Integration: Appreciate and associate the importance or relationship of
the Phases/ States of Matter in our daily life.
Awareness of the diverse activities and contributions of
matter in our environment.

III. Learning Experiences:

Teacher’s Activity Students’ Activity

A. Preliminary Activity
Greetings

B. Review/ Drill
C. Lesson Proper
C1. Motivation
Activity Number 1:The teacher will present
the first activity entitled, “The Big Wheel”.
After that, the teacher will present the
instructions and the mechanics on how to
play the game. (There are three(3)
categories on which each group will choose
one category to answer. If it’s answered
correctly, they will spin the wheel for a
corresponding point’s, if the answer is
incorrect, the second, third/ fourth group
may steal, Good Luck!)

CATEGORIES

Something HARD Something WET Something HARD – “ I am Hard, not soft. I’m the
best conductor, not an insulator.
My name starts with letter “M”, ends with letter
“L”. Who am i?
I SMELL something
METAL

Something WET – “ Are you thirsty ?, well, you

need me! I am essential and abundant. I have
two (2) H, and one (1) O. So, tell me if you know?

WATER / H2O
End Game

0 Team Three
I SMELL something – “ I can be visible or invisible.
I’m always everywhere. Through me, I can smell

your food and your perfume. Inhale or exhale, I

will be there!”

Points
C2. Presentation of the Lesson
MATTER
Those examples are what we call? *Is anything that occupies and has
mass.
*Is anything that occupies space,
has mass and may be quite
invisible.
*Is simply defined as anything that
has weight, occupies space and
mass.
9

Very Good! A molecule is the smallest particle in a

chemical element or compound that
has the chemical properties of that
We have also components or what we call element or compound. Molecules are
the small particles of Matter. What are those? made up of atoms that are held
together by chemical bonds. These
bonds form as a result of the sharing
or exchange of electrons among
atoms.

10

An atom is the smallest

constituent unit of
ordinary matter that has
the properties of
a chemical element.

11

That’s right! Phases of Matter are the different states by

which matter could exist. It is an important
Phases ( Phases of Matter) physical property of matter. Phases of matter
can be used in classifying the various kinds of
matter in the world. There are three (3) states
of matter based on the molecules and
motions of the particles, to wit:
*Solid *Liquid *Gas

C3. Development of Learning Activities

The teacher will present set of pictures and Solid is a rigid form of matter that maintains
the students will give their observations/ the same shape regardless of the shape of its
insights regarding the given examples. container. The important characteristics of
solid matter include: 1) definite shape and 2)
definite volume.
The tiny particles or molecules that made up
a solid are packed very close together so it
does not flow or move away from each
other. This explains why solids maintain a
definite shape.

The teacher will present another set of

pictures and the students will give their
observations/ insights regarding the given
examples.
Liquid is a form of matter that takes the
shape of the part of the container it
occupies. The particles or molecules of liquid
are close but are not held as tightly together
as the particles or molecules of solid.
The teacher will present another set of
pictures and the students will give their
observations/ insights regarding the given
examples.
Gas has no definite shape and no definite
volume. The particles that made up gas are
very far from each other except when they
collide with each other. It fills any container
that it occupies and can easily be
compressed into much smaller volume.
It diffuses fast. Examples: Oxygen, neon, air,
carbon dioxide, etc.

C4. Enrichment Activity

Activity Number 2:
With the same group, the students will
simulate the arrangement and movement of
the three (3) Phases / States of Matter. The
group leader will pick one Phase/ state to
simulate and the other groups will identify it.
Solid

Liquid
Gas

D. Generalization
Activity Number 3: The teacher will present
another group (same group) activity entitled,
“WHO AM I?”. The teacher will present
examples of pictures of the Phases / States of
Matter and each group will write their
answer/s on the given board. The groups will
be given ten (10) seconds to answer. Two
points (2) will be given to the group who can
answer the question correctly. Good Luck!

1. Smoke 1. Gas
2. Fruit juice 2.Liquid
3. Book 3.Solid
4. Ice 4.Solid
5. Water 5.Liquid
6. Fog 6.Gas
7. Table 7.Solid
8. Flame 8.Gas
9. Soft drinks 9.Liquid
10. Inflated balloon 10.Gas

Life Lessons:
 In our life, we should always maintain our
good relationship to one another, like
Solids, we should always be intact.
Although in life there are certain
inevitable problems and obstacles in the
family, love life, friends, we tend to go
afar to have some space like liquids,
gases, and plasma wherein there are little
/ loose attractions.

IV. Learning Outcomes:

Direction: Choose the correct answer from the box to make the statement correct. Write the
letter of your answer on the space provided.

a. Solid b. Liquid c. Gas d. Atom e. Matter

____1. Its anything that occupies space and has mass.

____2. It is the state of matter that has neither a definite shape nor a definite volume.
____3. It is the smallest constituent unit of ordinary matter that has the properties of a
chemical element.
___4. It is the state of matter that has a definite shape and volume.
____5. It is the state of matter that has a definite volume and the ability to flow and take the
shape of a container.
V. Assignment.
Direction: ½ sheet of paper
Define and give examples of the following (other States of Matter):
