MODIFIED JAZZ CHANT CONTEST

MECHANICS/GUIDELINES:

1. The competition is open to all education students of participating schools except DLSU-D.
2. Each competing team shall be composed of 15 to 20 members.
3. Only one competition piece (DepEd Vision and Mission… please see the copy on the next page)
shall be used by all the participating teams. It shall be sent in advanced by the organizers.
4. Each team is given a maximum of 8 minutes to present the contest piece in modified jazz chant.
5. Modified jazz chanting means that the team may creatively repeat certain words, lines or sentences
of the given “piece”. Omitting any line of the “piece”, however, is not allowed.
6. Costumes and props are allowed. The placement of props on the stage shall be included in the time
limit.
7. Contestants may bring and use their own material (non-electronic/non-electrical only) for sound
effects purposes.
8. For every increment of one minute overtime, 1 point shall be deducted from the group’s over-all
score.
9. Prizes at stake. The First, Second, and Third Placers shall receive a certificate for the school.
Certificate of Recognition/Medal and a cash prize shall be awarded to individual winners.
Certificate of Participation shall be given to all participating groups/individuals.

10. An entry form shall be required for submission with group picture together with a certification of
enrollment signed by the Dean or the Registrar. Entry forms shall be submitted on or before
Friday, November 18, 2016 and shall be sent through LBC, express mail, etc. or personal delivery
to:

11. The criteria that will be used for judging are as follows:

1. Mastery – (20%)
 Mastery of the piece is observed.
 Certainty and sureness in delivery is manifested.
2. Voice Projection/Volume – (10%)
 Voice is modulated and loud enough to be heard by the audience.
 Voice projects confidence.
 There is excellent blending of voices.
3. Enunciation, articulation, intonation (10%)
 Words are pronounced clearly and correctly.
 Good diction and intonation are observed.

4. Emotional connection (10%)


 Facial expressions are proper and emphatic.
 Facial projection complements the “piece”.
5. Choreography (30%)
 Smooth transition in movement and steps is observed.
 Formation and routine are synchronized and well organized.
6. Costume, props and sound effects (10%)
 Costume, props and sound effects complement the “piece” chanted.
 Creativity in the sound effects, costume and props is noted.
7. Audience response – (10%)
 Points are made in a very creative and effective way and held the audience’s attention
throughout.
 A strong impact to the audience is observed.

9. Registration fee for each participating school is Php 1200.00. This shall be paid during the
registration on Thursday, December 1, 2016. A receipt will be issued.
