ENGLISH LEVEL 1 INTERCHANGE INTRO

Level One is a multi-skills syllabus and is structured with the philosophy that language is best
learned when it is used for meaningful communication.
This level is aimed at adult learners who have minimal English language abilities and
thus covers fundamental basics such as the alphabet and numbers. It also focuses on
elements that allow for learners to conduct basic conversations and ask and answer
elementary questions. As this is a beginner’s English course, writing skills are kept to a
minimum with more focus on building confidence in speaking, listening and reading.
The focus of this syllabus is on accuracy and fluency using natural conversational
language. Grammar is taught in a communicative context and listening activities are task-
based. Speaking activities are personalized to allow for enjoyment and fun in the classroom.
This course focuses on contemporary topics and teaches learners the basic language
components of introductions, countries and nationalities, the weather, telling the time, colours
and numbers, family, daily and weekly routines.
There are numerous additional activities to encourage class participation, pair work
and to help individuals gain confidence.
A section for self study incorporates online activities related to the course book as
well Audio CD materials for improving listening skills. These allow learners to review what
was learnt in class at a time that is convenient to them.
