This is an unpublished work the copyright in which vests in Marconi Communications Limited. All rights reserved.
The information contained herein is confidential and the property of Marconi Communications Limited and is supplied without liability
for errors or omissions. No part may be reproduced, disclosed or used except as authorised by contract or other written permission.
The copyright and the foregoing restriction on reproduction and use extend to all media in which the information may be embodied.
This document consists of the information to be taken into consideration when upgrading the UC &
EX Product Family Application software on your system to the software contained in the package
supplied. This is additional to the software download instructions that are contained in the relevant
Management System Operator Manuals for upgrading Network Elements using the CD-ROM.
Following this introduction, Section 2 lists the information to be taken into consideration when loading
the UC & EX Product Family application software.
PLEASE READ ALL THE SOFTWARE UPGRADE INFORMATION CAREFULLY BEFORE COMMENCEMENT.
In Section 3, the Software Media Pack Tables show the software component parts of all UC & EX
Product Family releases. The application software packs are defined by the HGC / PHS codes at the
head of the table.
Further information on the currently available application software media packs can be obtained from
the relevant Provisioning Control Document (CTA) for the release.
1. When implementing a software upgrade, the download sequence should be carried out in the
following order:-
2. Each released set of software should be treated as a compatible set of software files.
3. Some constituent parts (SBA / SLD codes) of a particular release may not have changed from
earlier releases. If the tables in Section 3 indicate that one or more codes have not changed, it is
not necessary to download the software file(s) again.
An LCT is release dependent, therefore removal of the previous LCT is not advisable.
a. If the NE software is not already upgraded by MV-36 then, using existing LCT, all new NE
software must be loaded into the non-current banks.
b. Perform an ‘Upgrade NE’ from the LCT. This will cause you to be logged out of the LCT,
and the multiplexer will go ‘off line’.
The LCT is compatible with Windows 2000 and Windows XP operating systems.
1
The LCT can only be installed by a user with either administrative or elevated privileges.
• To ensure the LCT is available to any user who logs on to the PC, it should be installed
by a user with administrative access privileges (e.g. Administrator).
To install the LCT, first insert the CD-ROM into the CD drive. The set-up instructions are
given below:-
1. Invoke Windows.
2. Select Windows Explorer and view the CD drive.
3. Select the appropriate Local Craft Terminal (LCT) directory, and execute “setup.exe”.
4. The user is then guided through the installation process.
1
To run most installations on Windows 2000 or XP machines, you are required to be either the administrator of
the computer or have some form of administrative privileges. This is because installations access the Windows
registry and Windows System folders.
1. Selecting Programs → Marconi → Marconi Local Craft Terminal from the Start Menu.
2. Double-clicking the icon on the Windows desktop (assuming this option was selected
during the installation).
The System card hardware, if delivered with this software media pack, will have the latest (current)
software already loaded.
This may NOT be the same as similar units already being used in the SMA1/4 UC/EX shelf.
a. Downgrade
This is where the System card software on the new card will be changed to match that on the
other System cards in the shelf
Using the Management System, load the new System card with the same software version as
provided in the existing System card using the instructions in the relevant handbook.
The software file will be from the media pack associated with the existing System card.
After software download, use the System card menu, Bank Status - Switch Banks, command. The
active bank is shown as current.
b. Upgrade
This is where the System card software on the cards in the shelf will be changed to match that
on the new System card.
Using the Management System, load the existing System card with the same software version as
provided in the new System card using the instructions in the relevant handbook.
The software file will be from the media pack associated with the new System card.
After software download, use the System card menu, Bank Status - Switch Banks, command. The
active bank is shown as current.
NOTE:
ii) After a bank switch has been performed on a System card, re-entering the LCT bank status
screen before the card has had time to re-initialise (typically 30 secs) may result in a negative
compliance indication.
The SMA1/4 UC & EX application software can be installed to the PC hard disk, or directly to the
SMA1/4 UC/EX itself. In each case, the "All Files (*.*)" option should be used in the "Select Source
File" dialog box. This will allow selection of both the "*.001" and “*.bdl” SMA files.
The instructions in the LCT Operator Manual should then be followed to install the SMA1/4 UC/EX
application software.
