Objective
Objective, Tips, Common part numbers
The information provided in this document is designed to assist the technician in determining the defective component or
circuit. It is a compilation of information obtained from the service manuals, technical guides and case histories.
The simplified schematics, troubleshooting simplified diagrams, voltage test points and location mapping information
should provide enough detail that the technician can quickly and accurately determine the cause of any fault in the system
with out major disassembly and/or possibly causing damage to the main board during the troubleshooting process. All
technicians should use caution during the disassembly and replacement of the components required to repair the product.
The information in this reference guide will be periodically updated as service bulletins, feedback from servicer’s or other
circumstances dictate.
Tips
• Unit displays “INIT”. Check the tray rotation motor and associated circuitry.
• Unit sometimes displays “F61” before shutdown. Check DC Detect / Protection circuitry.
• Broken pc board. Avoid breaking the PC board during troubleshooting / disassembly of the SAHT930.
Connector JK2000 is inaccessible from the top of the main pc board. Please refer to the DC Detect
Path and Voltage charts to assist in troubleshooting without major disassembly. Replace the main
board.

Control unit Repair Strategy
SC-HT730 /SC-HT930 Repair Strategy for a shutdown (F61) symptom.
These two units differ in power output (the subwoofer) so troubleshooting of the control unit is identical for both units. Shutdown
can be either in the control unit or subwoofer. You can begin troubleshooting from either unit. In the control unit,
troubleshooting is done from the top of the main board. Repairs are done from the bottom where the parts are.

Control unit repair strategy –

To perform the following steps, you need to locate the jumpers (physical grid location diagrams) and identify the purpose of the
jumpers (the concept diagrams). These detail diagrams follow this text.
Procedure -
First prove the problem is in the control unit by cutting the W2344 jumper on the top of the board (location grid K7) and confirming
that the remaining voltage at W2156 is high at about 9V. This disconnects the control unit’s protection into micro IC2018.
• If the 9Vdc is present before shutdown the problem is in the subwoofer assembly, not in the control unit where you are.
Reconnect the jumper and go to the repair information on the subwoofer.
• If the 9Vdc is present, and the unit does not shutdown the problem is in this control unit. Shut off the unit and proceed to
step 2.
• If the 9Vdc is absent, the problem is in this control unit, either a missing 9V source or the 9Vdc is loaded down. Cut
jumpers W2413 and W2154 one at a time to determine which load is guilty of loading. If both jumpers produce no 9V, the
M+9V source is bad.
2. If the unit does not shutdown because you have compromised the protection circuit (removed W2156), keep the unit on just to
measure the voltage. Monitor the various voltages at these jumpers to determine which is incorrect: [The jumper grid location
follows the “W” jumper number.]
‰ W2550 / M7 = SW 5Vdc
‰ W2417 / K8 = + 7Vdc
‰ W2340 / I7 = - 7Vdc
‰ W2235 / K9 = 0Vdc
‰ W2427 / J8 = 9Vdc
3. Except for the 0V measurement, If a above voltage is missing, cut the (load) jumper and measure each end of the jumper. If the
votlage is now present at one end after the cut, it’s load is shorted. Trace down and troubleshoot the load.
Use the “Protect Paths to Micro IC2018” diagram to make sure the jumper is the load jumper that separates the load from the
source voltage before cutting. Often it is the same jumper as the one listed above in step 3 or there may be additional load
jumper because the source has multiple loads. Page 7

How to use the “SAHT930 Protection Paths” diagram
SAHT930 DC Detect Path
The Path chart (page 9) is intended to assist the technician by indicating easily accessible test points for voltage
verification from the top of the pc board. The chart contains information identical to the Shutdown / Protect simplified
schematic but with the addition of jumper wire test points to aid the technician when troubleshooting using the Shutdown /
Protect diagrams.
*Note: If the three Jumper wires in the flowchart that have CUT* indications are opened and the unit displays “F61”
before shutdown, the problem is in the subwoofer unit.

Subwoofer Repair Information

Subwoofer Repair Strategy
Overview - The SC-HT930 consists of a Subwoofer and Control unit. The units are connected by a 20 pin round umbilical cord
that carries power from the Subwoofer to the control unit and audio from the control unit back to the subwoofer. When
connected together and plugged in to AC, the Subwoofer provides standby (SYS6V) voltage to the micro in the control unit.
The SC-HT730 is similar. The difference is that the lower power output results in 1 less board in the subwoofer.

Protection - Refer to protection concept (page 17). The protection monitoring circuitry in both the subwoofer and control unit
feed the microprocessor IC2018 in the control unit. If shutdown is triggered, the micro via the 20 pin umbilical cable opens
the subwoofer AC relay power relay, shutting off the power for both the control & subwoofer [but standby voltage (SYS 6V) is
still present]. Error code F61 may be displayed just before power is lost.

Troubleshooting
Determine if the Shutdown is caused by the Subwoofer: Refer to Subwoofer protection circuit and access (following pages).
1. Do not connect the Control unit to the Subwoofer. On the larger power board of the subwoofer, tack a 10k ohm test resistor
across D508 to serve as a temporary DC Det pull up resistor so the subwoofer can be tested alone.
2. Jump the contacts of the AC relay RLY501.
3. While monitoring the unbanded anode end of D508 with your DC voltmeter, momentarily plug the subwoofer into AC.
4. If the voltage remains at 0Vdc, unplug the AC immediately. The problem is in the subwoofer. See subwoofer repair below.
5. If the voltage rises to 5Vdc, the problem is in the Control unit, not this subwoofer. Disconnect the test resistor and close the
subwoofer.
Subwoofer Repair
1. Leave the test resistor across D508 during these next steps.
2. Remove the Subwoofer’s (Front) Amp board.
3. While monitoring the unbanded anode end of D508 with your DC voltmeter, momentarily plug the subwoofer into AC.
• Voltage remains at 0Vdc - the problem is on the subwoofer power amp board. Remove Q501/Q502, Q559, and
Q556/Q557 one group at a time to determine which group permits D508/Anode voltage to rise to 9V when plugged in
momentarily. When removing a group of transistors causes D508/A voltage to rise, the feed for those transistors is at
fault. Eg. If Q501/2 were removed, and the voltage came up to 9V, suspect IC501 and the transistors removed (Q501 &
Q502).
• Voltage rises to 5Vdc - the problem is in the Amp board that was unplugged or the + supply voltage from T501 (H601) is
unbalanced (+V not = -V). See page 18. Check for open foils to connector H601 and replace IC601 on the board.
4. Remove the test resistor across D508 or the micro will be damaged when the control unit is connected & turned on.

The subwoofer can be disassembled and placed in a
serviceable position. It can be operational in this position
as long as the necessary precautions are taken.
