Figure. W2 A Thick-walled cylinder

Using the finite element method, you are required to analyse a thick-walled cylinder, as
shown in Fig. W2, subject to different loading conditions. The loading cases are as
follows:
a) Pure torsion (T=30 kNm)
b) Pure bending (M=25 kNm)
c) Pure internal pressure (P=10MPa)
d) Pure axial loading (F=250kN)
e) Combined bending(M=25 kNm), torsion (T=30 kNm), and axial loading
(F=250kN)
The loads are either applied individually or in combination. For each loading case, the
results must be compared with the corresponding analytical results. The following points
must be considered during your modelling and analysis.
i. Choice of element
ii. Abstraction
iii. Applying loads and boundary conditions (B.C.)
iv. Accuracy of the analysis (Convergence test)

Please complete the tables and figures, as shown in the following list. The same format,
as shown in the following pages, must be used for submission. For each case include a
small schematic diagram showing the abstract model with the corresponding loads and
boundary conditions.
