ACID-BASE PROPERTIES OF ORGANIC COMPOUNDS

Methodolgy

Different compounds was used in this experiment depending on what is assigned to the

group. The physical state of the sample was observed in room temperature. Color and

odor was also noted. The group added 10 drops of the known sample into four different

test tubes with a label of letters A,B,C and D. Each compound was prepared 4 pieces of

test tube each with a total of 8 different test tubes. In the first test tube, which is test tube

A, 1 ml of water H20 was added. For test tube B, 1 ml of 1M HCl,` was added. For test

tube C, 1 ml of 1M NaOH, sodium hydroxide was added. And lastly, 1 ml of 1M

NaHCO3, , a sodium carbonate was added to the test tube. After the reaction of the first

compound, the resulting effects were observed and the results were placed in a table. The

results that showed up were tabulated as whether the known organic compounds were

soluble/miscible or vice versa with the solvents added.
