IELTS Speaking

Latest & Anticipatedting

Actual Questions
(for Sep-Dec 2018)

These sets of questions are based on researches and analysies of the most recent and
actual IELTS speaking questions. It includes not only the latest but the trendingy and
greatly anticipated Sep-Dec 2018 topics and questions as well.

Focus more on student’s fluency, ideation, sentences structures, and grammar, and
give IELTS speaking tips rather than correcting pronunciation unless it’s really
necessary.

Attention:
Do not send the entire file to your student!!!

1) During the class: You only need to only copy and paste ‘Part 2’ to the Skype chat
box as a Q-card. (Part 1 and 3 are not recommended for this unless the student is a
beginner and lacks comprehension)

2) Before the class ends: You need to copy and paste answered set of parts all
together including SET number so that student can review the lesson after class.
Guideline

Speaking Part 1 (4~5 mins)

In the IELTS speaking test Part 1, the examiner will introduce himself or herself
and ask general questions on familiar topics.

The examiner will ask some questions to confirm candidate’s identity. He or she will then ask
general questions on familiar topics such as home, family, work, studies and interests. Part 1
Speaking test takes about 4~5 minutes and number of questions are maximum 12 based on 3
topics, but it depends on how candidate responds. After the applicant answers, the examiner
can ask “why?” as often as they need to, in order to make the applicant give longer answers.

First one of the 3 topics is always 【Checking name and ID + Work / Study (or) Where you live】
as chart below. They are always included in Part 1 questions, so this is OPTIONAL for teachers and
they can skip if needed (especially the checking name and ID part).

Speaking Part 2 (3~4 mins)

In the IELTS speaking test Part 2, candidate will be given a task card on a
particular topic, this will include key points that he or she should talk about.
This section of the Speaking test gives candidate the opportunity to speak longer about the
topic. Candidate will be given one minute to prepare for his/her answer about the topic on the
task card. A pencil and paper will be provided for him/her to take notes. Candidate will
have about 2 minutes to talk and then the examiner might ask him/her one or two follow up
questions on the same topic. Part 2 takes about 3~4 minutes.

Speaking Part 3 (4~5 mins)

In the IELTS speaking Part 3, the examiner will ask a broader range of questions
based on the topic that you had in speaking part 2. The questions require you to
expand your answers further with explanations and examples. The examiner will
strictly control the time.
This part of the test is designed to give the candidate the opportunity to talk more about
abstract issues and ideas. It is a two-way discussion with the examiner, which lasts about 4~5
minutes.

Each Part 3 is unique, as the examiners have to modify and reformulate the questions to
create more of a conversational flow, based on the candidate’s level. They have 9 questions
to choose from for Part 3. They use the first 6 for weaker candidates and the last 6 for
stronger candidates, which means no two tests should be the same. It has to be more like a
natural conversation. This is for gauging the candidate's actual English level more accurately
since many of them tend to memorize prepared answers.

The questions for Part 3 are more like prompts for the examiner than a script to read.
Eg)

Q. Can you compare the use of formal clothes in the past and present? (Original question)
Q. How often do people in your country wear formal clothes? (For lower level candidate)
