Desktop trouble shooting

PROBLEM:
NO DISPLAY BUT CPU FAN RUNNING.
 Step1
Observe the single beep sound
coming from main unit (cpu) or check
the NUM lock or caps lock LED status
in keyboard (on/off condition)
 Step2
If single beep coming or “NUM” lock or
“caps” lock LED on/off status is ok, there
is no problem in main unit (cpu), then
check the monitor power LED condition.
 Step3
If the monitor power LED is not
glowing, then check the monitor
power cable.
 Step4
If the monitor power cable is not
ok then replace the power cable.
 Step5
If the monitor power cable is ok
then replace or repair the monitor.
 Step6
If the monitor power LED is
glowing, then check the VGA cable
of the monitor.
 Step7
If the VGA cable is not ok then
replace the VGA cable.
 Step8
If the VGA cable is ok then replace
or repair the monitor.
 Step9
If the problem is in main unit (cpu),
first clean the RAM and RAM slots,
then check the display.
 Note
Before cleaning the RAM, observe any
physical damages or burnings of
components on mother board like
capacitors, MOS-FET, IC’s and replace
them with correct value.
 Step10
If the display is not ok after cleaning the
RAM also now change the RAM with
working RAM and check the display.
 Step11
If the display is ok after changing
the RAM, then replace the RAM
with new RAM
 Step12
If the display is not ok after
changing the RAM, now check the
reset signal at PCI slot “A15”
 Step13
If the reset signal is not ok (3v) at PCI
slot A15 ,it is the mother board problem.
Then replace or repair the mother board.
 Step14
If the reset signal is ok (3v) at PCI slot
A15 ,then proceed to check the other
sections of mother board also.
