Direction: Identify what operation should be used in order for these equations to be
true.
1. 3x+3__2x+2 = 5x+5
2. 2𝑥 2 − 6 __ 𝑥 2 + 3 = 𝑥 2 − 9
3. 𝑥 2 + 6𝑥 + 8__−2𝑥 − 5 = 𝑥 2 + 4𝑥 + 3
1.2 Activity Proper
The students will form four groups and answer the “Polynomial Puzzle.
2. Analysis
Ask the students what lessons will be tackle based on the activities that
we had.
The topic is all about “Adding and Subtracting Polynomials”
The students will read all the steps in adding and subtracting
polynomials.
1. Subtract7𝑥 + 6𝑥 2 + 4 from7𝑥 2 − 9𝑥 3 + 8
Solution:
−9𝑥 3 + 7𝑥 2 +8
6𝑥 2 + 7𝑥 + 4
−𝟗𝒙𝟑 + 𝒙𝟐 − 𝟕𝒙 + 𝟒
3. (6𝑥 2 − 3𝑥 + 8) − (4𝑥 3 − 5𝑥 − 3)
Solution:
6𝑥 2 − 3𝑥 + 8
−4𝑥 2 + 5𝑥 + 3
𝟐𝒙𝟐 + 𝟐𝒙 + 𝟏𝟏
3. Abstraction
Ask the students if there are questions with regards to the lesson.
Explain again the steps in adding and subtracting polynomials.
4. Application
Go back to your groups and answer the following word problems.
Select a leader that will answer and discuss the given problems.
