WORDS AND THOUGHTS FROM YOUR EXECUTIVE

COMMITTEE BY JULIANNE M.AND PAULA B.

There is plenty to do at the Valley Social Club. On Mondays from 1-2pm is

the group called “Lets Talk” with Phyllis K. We have many groups to choose
from like; Art Class with Jacques, Bingo with our awesome callers’ Sylvia and
Rebecca who also does the Women’s Tea. There are some great pool and
cards, games too! Most of the time we all have some pleasant conversation
with other members. We love to go places. We enjoy out to eat once a month
where the people going out choose where we are eating not those who do
not participate. That makes for a very fun time for all because we get to
enjoy a great meal that we all want to eat! We go with Jacques to CVH to
participate in the Keep the Promise Meeting in Middletown. We get to meet a
lot of club members from other places.
The educational series is great too with special guests each month. Even
Mayor Cassetti and Senator Logan have come to talk at the club. We had the
Commissioner of Mental Health come to our club too! So with all that how
could you not want to come at least once a week to spend time in our club.
So we hope you try out the social club sometime this year. Our membership
has not increased in a lot of years and is still $10. So if you are new to
BHcare of a member who has not been here in a while its time to come back
to the club on Main Street. We are right next to Jerry’s Driving School. Call
for more information, just ask for Phyllis Kaplan or Jacques Maignan.

Brrrrr!!!!February greets us with a chill in the air! We now have about 3 months of
the same coming! You can all keep warm at the club!! Come in here for a hot
chocolate or even stay for a lunch just the thing we need now to keep our mind off
the cold. The New Year brought us some new members, welcome! To all current
members, please budget your VSC Dues into your bills to pay if you want to go on
trips or get the member discount. It is still only $10. It will be the best thing to do
for yourself all New Year 2019. The South Central Grants are happening! “did you
get your proposal yet?” The grants were due February 1st but don’t worry if you
missed them because they will do them again. So start to get your ideas now so
you will be ready the next time around. I also will be waiting for a decision to
mine.
Happy Valentines to everyone!! Try not to eat to much chocolate! That what’s up
this month. Check us out if you like and have a
great month.

PHYLLIS’ ANNIVERSARY BY JOHN L.

Phyllis has been with BHcare for thirty four years. I have been working with her
that long. Phyllis has been helping me with my problems and helping me to keep
on the right track. Phyllis is the supervisor of the Valley Social Club. Phyllis makes
sure we are safe and healthy in the club. I thank Phyllis for all she has done for
me and continuing to do for me. I hope Phyllis has many more years with running
our club. I would panic if she ever retires from the club, it just would not be the
same! I want her to run it for a long time so our future will continue to look
bright. What a relief she is still here with us all! Here’s to many more! Cheers!

DANCE, DANCE, DANCE THE AFTERNOON AWAY! BY PAULA B.

The Valley Social Club went to a dance at Fellowship Place in New Haven on January 25, from
2-4pm. There was plenty of dancing done by both clubs. Dinner was served and there was a cake
served that one of their members named Betty bought to celebrate the January birthdays. We
heard she does that every month out of her own pocket. Phyllis is the DJ and everyone was happy
to dance all afternoon long! The next dance is February 11th from 5-7:30p again! Rides home will be
provided. So look for the sign up sheets, the $2.00 donation is surely worth it to have so much fun!

DANCING AT FELLOWSHIP BY JOHN L.

I recently went with the club to the afternoon Fellowship Place Dance in New
Haven on January 25, 2019. We had a very nice time visiting with their club
members. We got up and danced to DJ Phyllis’s mix of music. We had a nice
supper and then we went home but we were left with a lot of great memories!
I would like to thank the staff and members for a swell time. It’s always good to
get out of the Valley for awhile. It was a great change of scenery!

REMEMBER WHEN YOU NEED INFORMATION AND YOU DON’T HAVE THE
ANSWER TO CALL 211.

Governor Ned Lamont wants you all to remember the 211

protocol if you have no where to go if the weather gets rough
and you lose your heat. Call 211 and they will help you find
the nearest warm place. There is no shame in going to a
warming center. It could be a matter of life or death!

Mayor Cassetti Talks to the VSC!

The Enlightened Lunch series welcomed our very own Mayor Dave Cassetti to the
VSC in January. We had an update about the building across the street which had
a pipe break in one of our members apartments causing the whole place to be
condemned and shut down until all the building inspector clears the building as
safe. Many people were sheltered in Milford at the Hotel 6. The building seems so
strange all dark and without activity going on. We hope the work can be
completed and all the people can get back in their apartments real soon. The
Mayor also talked about the rejuvenation of Colony Park in Ansonia and how he
wants to make it a family friendly place to go all year round so that will be fun. He
talked about the new Wakelee Avenue and how nice it is even though there were
some set backs before it was completely restored. It looks great now! The mayor
talked about all the future planning and his vision of making Ansonia a nice place
to live again, with new affordable apartments, businesses that might come in so
there are a variety of eateries and shopping areas to visit. Members asked him
many questions and then we all enjoyed some homemade chicken wraps and
chips that Jacques and Julianne put together. The mayor is looking forward to
May so he can dance at our block party and see all the new artwork we create for
the art show. We love having the mayor talk to us. He feels we are good people
to have here on Main Street!
