WASTE 2 RESOURCE EDUCATION CENTRE &

RESOURCE RECOVERY CENTRE TOUR SAFETY CHECKLIST
As the health and safety of your students is of the utmost concern, please read
the following Safety Checklist, sign the form and return via email or fax to us
on 07 5494 5122, prior to your excursion.
The Sunshine Coast Council is serious about safety. There are certain safety requirements
that will ensure your visit is a safe and enjoyable one.

 The school is responsible for the students’ safety and behaviour when they take part
in the Waste 2 Resource Education Centre & Resource Recovery Centre tour. Please refer to
your schools’ excursion policies and procedures to protect, you, the parents, and the
students whilst conducting activities outside of your school grounds.

 Please note required adult/student ratios whilst preparing and conducting your excursion
– Kindy & Prep – Year 3 required ratio 1:5, Year 4 & 5 required ratio 1:8 and Year 6 & 7
required ratio 1:10.

 Safety Equipment – if required, we will provide all participants with appropriate safety
equipment while on site i.e. safety vests, safety glasses, and ear plugs.

 We have strict health and safety procedures in place for all on site visitors. Our facility is an
operating business and will not cease for the duration of the tour. It is very important that
students are briefed on appropriate behaviour prior to the excursion, and made aware of
their responsibility to listen carefully and follow instructions from the Education
Facilitator conducting the tour.

 Protective Clothing - all participants including teachers, parents and students

participating in the excursion will need to wear enclosed footwear. Anyone not wearing
appropriate footwear will not be allowed to exit the bus at the Centre.

 Sun Protection - all teachers, parents and students will need to prepare for adequate sun
protection with sunscreen and hats.

 Toilets - there are toilet facilities available on site.

 Water - we recommend that participants bring an adequate supply of water for the
excursion.

 First Aid - please ensure that you bring along a First Aid Kit for your excursion, and that an
adult participant holds a First Aid Certificate.

 Special Needs - the education centre is accessible for wheelchairs. Please advise us if
you have any special needs for students participating in the excursion so that we can make
appropriate arrangements.

We have read the above checklist and understand our responsibilities for
health and safety during the excursion.
