I.

Objectives:

At the end of the activity most of the students should be able to;

(a) Identify the basic recording equipment of a digital radio studio.

(b) Classify whether devices use electricity and/or magnetism when used in recording audio.
(c) Start a literature search on electromagnetic induction’s role in recording technology.

II. Subject Matter

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. Motivation

Greetings!
(Video presentation about the Earth’s
geological feature.)

What have you learned after watching the The Earth is made up of 3
video? main layers:
• Core
B. Discussion • Mantle
Everybody look at the picture of the • Crust
Earth’s cross-sectional area.
The three layers of the Earth
What are the three layers of the Earth? are Core, Mantle, Crust

Earth’s lithosphere consists of layers, the

crust and the upper part of the mantle.
This part of the module will focus on the
outermost layer which is called crust.

(The teacher will present the map of the

world)

If you look at a map of the world, what

can you observe about the continents?

Good. There are small and big

continents and they are
If you look at a map of the world, you may separated from each other.
notice that some of the continents could
fit together like pieces of a puzzle. Is it
possible to think that continents were
once joined together as one?

(Video presentation)

Yes.

What is Plate Tectonics according to the

video you have watched?

The Plate Tectonics is based

on the concepts proposed by
Alfred Wegener.
The lithosphere is divided
What do you think be the cause and effect into continent-sized plates

plates? The continents were once
part of a supercontinent
called Pangaea.

C. Generalization
Where does gas exchange happen?

Correct!
What gas is inhaled?

Very Good!
What gas is exhaled?
Very good!
What are the different parts of respiratory
system?

Very Good!

I. Application

A. Pre-activity
Now before we begin the activity listen
carefully to the instruction.
1. You will be group into 5 groups.
Each group has 4 members.
2. Each member should have a
role/participation in the activity.
3. After the activity, each group should
present their activity.
4. You will be rated using a rubric.

B. Activity Proper

Objectives:
 Objective: Locate the epicenter of an
earthquake using the triangulation
method.
 Procedure:

1. Study the data showing the

difference in the arrival time of P-wave
and S-wave on three seismic recording
stations.
1. Compute the distance of the
epicenter from each of the stations
using this formula: d = Td/8
seconds x 100 km

Where: d = distance (km) Td = time

difference in the arrival time of P-
wave and S-wave (seconds) This
formula is suited because 8 seconds
is the interval between the times of
arrival of the P-wave and S-wave at
a distance of 100 km.
3. Choose one of the recording stations
and measure the computed distance on
the map scale (the scale of the map in
Figure 3 is 1.5 cm: 200 km). Set your
compass for that computed distance.

4. Center your compass on the station

you have chosen. Draw a circle.
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for the rest of
the stations. You should get three circles
that intersect or nearly intersect at a
point. This intersection is the epicenter.
C. Post Activity:

1. Where is the epicenter of this

hypothetical earthquake?
2. What difficulty will you encounter if
you only have data from two
recording stations?
The distance-time graph above shows
that the S-P interval is about 10
minutes.
3. What is the distance of the epicenter
from the seismic station?
4. What do you think is the
importance of determining the
epicenter of an earthquake?

IV. Assessment

The student will be graded base on the

activity using a rubric.

V. Assignment

Do an advance research on the following;

1. Convergent Boundary
2. Divergent Boundary
3. Transform Boundary
