DESCRIPTIVE TOURIST RESORT

Made famous by the book and movie Eat, Pray, Love, Ubud is also the epicenter of Balinese art
and culture. This is where the modern Balinese art movement was born, with the surrounding
royal palaces and temples acting as the main patrons. Today, several excellent local museums
and galleries celebrate its evolution and traditions. Art gazing is particularly rewarding here, as
many collections are housed in traditional Balinese buildings surrounded by serene tropical
gardens.

For an overview of Balinese art, your first stops should be Agung Rai Museum of Art (ARMA)
and the Neka Art Museum, which lie within a short stroll of the Ubud Monkey Forest. Both
span traditional to contemporary works, including kris (ceremonial daggers), photography, and
classical wayang (puppet-figure) paintings. Other worthwhile art galleries and museums in the
Ubud area include Setia Darma House of Masks & Puppets featuring ceremonial masks from
Asia and beyond; Museum Puri Lukisan, spanning a range of Balinese artistic styles; and the
Don Antonio Blanco Museum, at the artist's former home and studio.

If shopping for art is more your style, don't miss the the Ubud Art Market. This labyrinth of
stalls brimming with carvings, sculptures, jewelry, sarongs, paintings, and homewares is one of
the top tourist attractions in town. Bargaining is essential, and a good rule of thumb is to counter
with half the asking price and barter upwards from there, always with a smile. Opposite the
market, the Puri Saren Royal Ubud Palace is also worth a visit and hosts traditional Balinese
dance performances during the evenings.

RECOUNT PAHLAWAN
Hatta was born in Bukittinggi on 12 August 1902 into a prominent and strongly Islamic family. His
grandfather was a respected ulema in Batuhampar, near Payakumbuh. His father, Haji Mohammad
Djamil, died when he was eight months old and he was left with his six sisters and his mother. As in the
matrilineal society of Minangkabau tradition, he was then raised in his mother's family. His mother's
family was wealthy, and Hatta was able to study Dutch as well as finishing Qur'an after school.[1]

He went to the Dutch language elementary school (ELS or Europeesche Lagere School) in Padang from
1913 to 1916 after he had finished Sekolah Melayu ('Malay School') in Bukittinggi. When he was thirteen,

During his spare time, he worked part-time in a post office. Normally, MULO students were not allowed
to work, but he was able to work there because of the HBS exam qualification.[1] Hatta was interested in
football; he joined his school's football team and was made its chairman. He broadened his sphere of
contacts by using his position.

Hatta used to visit the office of the Sarikat Usaha (United Endeavor), led by Taher Marah Soetan. In the
office, he read Dutch newspapers, particularly about political debates in the Volksraad (parliament) of the
Dutch East Indies. It was at the age of sixteen that Hatta began to be interested in politics and national

RECOUNT ILMUWAN

Alexander Graham Bell is widely credited with the invention of the telephone but he is not the
only inventor worked in this project. One of them isThomas AlvaEdison, the well-known
inventor. He assumed to know the failure of Bell’s Electromagnetic Transmitter. By now Bell
was marketing these as ‘Butterstamp Phones’ (as there shape resembled this object). Edison
wanted to improve on the Liquid Transmitter idea of variable resistance rather than a varying
magnetic field.

In 1877 Edison developed the Carbon Button “Microphone”, David Hughes later revived the
term ‘Microphone’ and made improvements to it. In the button microphone a voltage excited the
carbon powder and the current varied with the pressure of vibrations from the diaphragm, which
altered the resistance of the carbon powder. Because of patent litigation with Emile Berliner,
who had made a device with an iron diaphragm touching a steel ball, Edison had to wait fifteen
years to obtain a patent, finally achieving this in 1892. Berliner obtained his patent in 1891. Later
Hughes and Francis Blake greatly improved this (the Edison) design.

Edison wanted to manufacture his own telephone system but was thwarted by Bell’s patents on
the liquid transmitter. He invented his own contraption called a “Motograph” or chalk receiver
which was powered by turning a handle moving a drum inside; it was said to have enough
volume to fill a small hall. First used in 1879, its days were limited by operators having to turn
the handle to make it work.

Blake’s improved carbon transmitter patent was acquired by Bell and used in America although
its legality was suspect owing to its similarity with Edison’s design. This never came to court as
in 1880 Bell and Edison merged to form the United Telephone Company. The combination of
Edison’s Carbon Button Transmitter and Bell’s electromagnetic receiver formed the standard
telephone for the next one hundred years.

REPORT TEXT ENDANGERED ANIMAL

The Sumatran rhinoceros (Dicerorhinussumatrensis) is the smallest rhino species. It is also the
most distinctive rhinoceros. It has been hunted a lot that it almost extinct. There are less than 300
Sumatran rhinoceroses surviving in Malaysia and Indonesia. Between 1985 and 1995, the
number of Sumatran rhinos declined by 50 percent because of poaching and habitat destruction.
The Sumatran rhinoceros has unique gray or reddish-brown coat. It is believed to be the only
survivor of the lineage that included the woolly rhinoceros. Sumatran rhinos stand up to 1.4 m
(4.6 ft) at the shoulder and weigh up to 1,000 kg (2,200 lb). They have folded skin, like the other
Asian rhinos, except that it is covered with coarse, bristly hair. The Sumatran is the only rhino in
Asia with two horns. The front horn is usually the longest, reaching a length of 90 cm (36 in),
and the rear one is sometimes so small that the animal looks as if it is single-horned.

They live mainly in forest-covered hills near water and are known to be good at climbing slopes
and swimming. They move mainly at night, and spend most of the day wallowing in mud-holes
and pools. Sumatran rhinoceroses usually feed on leaves, twigs, and fruit. Female rhinos reach
sexual maturity at about the age of five or six. The males mature between the ages of seven and
eight. However, they do not father calves until they have claimed a territory, which may take
them three or four years. Rhinos always have a single calf, born after a gestation period of 15 to
18 months. The calf may feed on its mother’s milk for up to two years, and it usually remains
with its mother until she is about to give birth once more. The calf is only raised by its mother.

DESCRIPTIVE BANGUNAN
The Golden Gate Bridge is a suspension bridge spanning the Golden Gate, the one-mile-
wide strait connecting San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean. The structure links the
American city of San Francisco, California- the northern tip of the San Francisco Peninsula –
to Marin County. The bridge is one of the most internationally recognized symbols of San
Francisco, California, and the United States.
The Frommer's travel guide describes the Golden Gate Bridge as "possibly the most beautiful,
certainly the most photographed, bridge in the world. At the time of its opening in 1937, it was
both the longest and the tallest suspension bridge in the world. Today, the Golden Gate Bridge is
neither the longest nor the tallest in the world, but remains the tallest bridge in the United States.
Before the bridge was built, the only practical short route between San Francisco and what is
now Marin County was by boat across a section of San Francisco Bay. A ferry service began as
early as 1820, with a regularly scheduled service beginning in the 1840s for the purpose of
transporting water to San Francisco.
The color of the bridge is officially an orange vermilion called international orange. The color
was selected by consulting architect Irving Morrowbecause it complements the natural
surroundings and enhances the bridge's visibility in fog. Upon re-submission of his bridge
construction plan, Josehp Strauss added details, such as lighting, to outline the bridge's cables
and towers.
