4. COMPLETE RESET
After a sharp knock, minor malfunction, or battery replacement,
it is possible that the analogue hands, the UTC display hands and the
main Digital Display may no longer be exactly synchronised.
In this event, it is necessary to perform the All Reset function; the object
is for all the analogue hands to be adjusted to the 12 o’clock position.
This function can be performed whilst the watch is in any mode.
■ Pull BR out.
■ Push and hold down TR, TL and BL simultaneously for three seconds.
■ Release all buttons; all segments in all Digital Displays will light up.
■ Press TL; immediately Display D will now show UTC. Use Buttons TR to
advance UTC hands clockwise, or BL to move hands anti-clockwise, until
both hour and minute hand on the UTC Dial are pointing exactly to 24.
■ After the UTC Dial has been adjusted, the main hour and minute hands
will also need to be adjusted.
■ With BR still pulled out, press Button TL; the letters “HR” will appear in the
Digital Display, in place of UTC. Advance the main hour hand to the 12
o’clock position by using TR and BL Buttons, as before.
OPERATING THE STOPWATCH: CHR
■ Press BR to select CHR on Dial C.
If timing is already taking place, first press TR to stop chronograph and
then press BL to return Chrono Display to zero.
You will find displays E and F useful whilst the watch is in the
chronograph mode, as they display the exact function of each button
at the various stages of timing.
NORMAL TIMING
Once the chronograph has been returned to zero,
■ Press TR Button to start timing.
■ Press TR Button again to stop timing.
■ Press BL to return chronograph to zero.
HAND RETRACTION
When the conventional analogue hands are blocking the main digital read
out whilst in any mode, the hands can be moved to the 12 o’clock position
without affecting the timekeeping, to allow a clear reading of the Digital
Display.
■ Push and hold TL for 3 seconds and then release; the analogue hands
will automatically rotate to 12 o’clock and the main Digital Display will be
clear. To avoid confusion and to remind you that you have retracted the
hands, the minute hand on the UTC dial will move back and forth by one
minute and the letters “HR” will blink in the small Digital Display F.
■ To return analogue hands to normal time press TL again.
KEY TO BUTTONS
■ Button BR is only for selecting the watch mode, as displayed on Dial C.
Dependent on which mode the watch is in, the other three Buttons will
perform various functions. The exact function each button performs in
each mode is displayed in the two small Display Panels E and F.
KEY TO DIALS & DISPLAYS
■ DIAL A: The UTC Time Indicator, showing the time in a 24 Hour Display
format. Co-ordinated Universal Time (or GMT) is the standard from which
all the zones are calculated.
■ DIAL B: Is the 24 Hour Indicator for the Main Analogue Hands, to be used
for determining the correct a.m. and p.m. settings.
■ DIAL C: Watch Mode Indicator.
■ DIGITAL DISPLAY D: Main Digital Time & Calendar Display.
■ DIGITAL DISPLAY E & F: Button Function Indicators.
TO SET TIME: TME
There are four separate occasions on which you may have to reset
the time.
1. Initial Set-Up.
2. Adjusting to Summer Time.
3. When travelling through Time Zones.
4. Complete Reset after a battery change: see Reset function.
1. INITIAL SET-UP
The time is adjusted via the Digital Display D. Once this task has been
completed, the main analogue hands and theUTC Display in Dial A will
automatically be synchronised to the time set in the Digital Display.
■ Press BR. Set mode to TME on Dial C.
■ Press TR or BL. To select the city required in the Digital Display.
■ Pull BR out gently; all of the digits in Display D will “flash”.
Press TR to select the digits to be adjusted.
(Digits “flash” in sequence: seconds, minutes, hour and, finally, it offers
you the choice of the hour being displayed in 12 hr, or 24 hr format).
■ Press BL to adjust each in turn.
■ When adjustment has been completed, push BR back in.
NOTE
If the hands and Digital Display are not exactly synchronised,
refer to re-set section.
IMPORTANT
Ensure that the hour hand on Dial B is pointing to 24, not 12,
to ensure correct a.m. / p.m. setting.
■ Press TL again and the letters “MIN” will appear in the Digital Display.
The main minute hand should be advanced to the 12 o’clock position,
using Buttons TR and BL.
■ Check to make sure all hands are pointing straight up on the UTC
Display, Dial A, 24 Hour Display Dial B and the Main Analogue hands.
If not, repeat the sequence again; once completed:
■ Push BR back in; the watch will bleep twice and begin normal operation
from the 12 o’clock position.
■ To reset the time, calendar and other functions,
see the relevant section number.
■ SPLIT TIMING
With chronograph set at zero:
■ Press TR to start timing.
Press BL to show time elapsed so far; although the time is ‘frozen’ and
the word “SPLIT” blinks above the Minute Display,
the chronograph is still timing the event, and after 10 seconds the Display
reverts back to running time.
■ To show final time at the end of the event,
press TR, followed by BL to reset to zero.
■ NOTE
If the Analogue Hands are in the way of the Digital Display, by
pressing the TL Button the main two Analogue Hands will return to 12
o’clock, without affecting the watch’s time keeping.
Please refer to section on Hand Retraction, for further explanation.
MODELS WITH ROTATING BEZEL
USING A SLIDE RULE BEZEL
Use the calculation function of this watch only as a guide.
Scales like these cannot place a decimal point for you.
NAVIGATIONAL CALCULATION
■ TIME REQUIRED
Example: Obtain the time required for the flight of an aircraft at 180 knots
for 450 nautical miles
Answer: Align “18” on the outer scale with the SPEED INDEX on the inner
scale. Then “45” on the outer scale corresponds to “2:30” on the inner
scale (time scale). Thus, the time required for the flight is 2 hours and 30
minutes.
■ RATE OF CLIMB, OR DESCENT The rate of climb (or descent) can be
obtained from the time required to reach an altitude.
Example: Obtain the rate of climb when an aircraft reaches an altitude of
7,500 feet after climbing for 16 minutes.
Answer: Align “75” on the outer scale with “16” on the inner scale. Then,
“10” on the inner scale corresponds to “47” on the outer scale. Thus, the
rate of climb is 470 feet.
■ TIME OF CLIMB, OR DESCENT The time required for climb can be
obtained from the altitude to be reached and the rate of climb, or descent.
Example: Obtain the time of climb when an aircraft is to climb to 6,300
feet at a rate of 550 feet per minute.
Answer: Align “55” on the outer scale with “10” on the inner scale. Then,
“63” on the outer scale corresponds to “11.5” on the inner scale. Thus, the
time of climb is 11 minutes and 30 seconds.
■ CONVERSION
Example: Convert 30 statute miles into nautical miles and kilometres.
Operation: Align “30” on the outer scale with STAT on the inner scale.
Then, NAUT on the inner scale corresponds to “26” nautical miles on the
inner scale, and “12 km” (s) on the inner scale corresponds to “48.2” km
on the outer scale.

2. ADJUSTING TO SUMMER TIME
Many cities change their clocks annually to differentiate between winter
and summer time.
To adjust your watch to, or from summer time, for a particular city:
■ Using BR, put the watch into TME mode.
■ Select the city you require in the Digital Display D, by pressing TR or BL.
■ Gently pull BR out.
■ Press BL and the digital time will advance one hour;
the word “summer” will appear.
■ When resetting to winter time, press BL again;
“summer” will disappear and the time will go back one hour.
■ When required summer or winter time is shown, simply press BR back in.
IMPORTANT
This operation only affects the time of the city shown in the Display.
If you wish to change to, or from summer time, in more than one city,
you will have to adjust each one independently.
TO SET THE CALENDAR: CAL
The calendar is adjusted on the Digital Display D.
■ Press BR to select CAL on Dial C.
■ Press TR, or BL to select city required.
■ Pull BR out; the Day Display will disappear and the Month Display will
start blinking. Press BL to advance to the required month.
■ Press TR and the date will start blinking. Press BL to adjust it to the
required date.
■ Press TR again, and the year will be displayed. Press BL to adjust year.
(If you go past the required year, keep BL Button depressed and as the
watch has only been programmed to the year 2099; it will then start again
from 1994).
Once the correct year has been selected, press the BR Button back in.
The day of the week will automatically be adjusted.
■ NOTE
Once you have adjusted calendar for any of the cities, all of the
others will be automatically reset at the date appropriate to its time zone.
OPERATING THE COUNTDOWN
TIMER ALARM: TMR
This function allows you to set an alarm to countdown to an event up to
60 minutes away. This alarm is independent of alarms AL-1, 2 & 3 and
sounds for 5 seconds.
■ Press BR Button to select TMR on Dial C.
■ Gently pull BR Button out;
the minutes and seconds digits on Digital Display D will flash.
■ Press BL Button to adjust minute (the seconds cannot be adjusted).
Once the required minutes have been selected push BR back in.
■ The top section of Digital Display D will always show the selected count
down period followed by the letter “M”. This will remain as a permanent
reminder as to the period set, whilst in Timer Mode.
■ To start Timer, press TR and the lower portion of Digital Display will start
to countdown. When the countdown has been completed, the alarm will
sound for 5 seconds.
■ The countdown can be stopped and re-started by using the TR Button.
■ For instant Reset + Simultaneous Start, press BL Button. This can be
done at anytime during the countdown, (in the event of a ‘false-start’).
■ KNOTS (AIR SPEED)
Example: Obtain the air distance (air speed) for 240 nautical miles with
a flight time of 1 hour and 20 minutes.
Answer: Align “24” on the outer scale with “1:20” on the inner scale
(time scale). Then, the SPEED INDEX on the inner scale corresponds
to “18” on the outer scale. Thus, the air speed for the flight is 180 knots.
■ FLIGHT DISTANCE
Example: Obtain the air distance when the air speed is 210 knots and
the flight time is 40 minutes.
Answer: Align “21” on the outer scale with the SPEED INDEX on the
inner scale. Then, “40” on the inner scale corresponds to “14” on the
outer scale. Thus, the air distance of the flight is 140 nautical miles.
■ RATE OF FUEL CONSUMPTION
Example: Obtain the rate of fuel consumption (gallons/hour) when the
flight time is 30 minutes and the fuel consumption is 120 gallons.
Answer: Align “12” on the outer scale with “30” on the inner scale. Then,
the SPEED INDEX on the inner scale corresponds to “24” on the outer
scale. Thus, the fuel consumption is 240 gallons per hour.
GENERAL CALCULATING FUNCTIONS
■ MULTIPLICATION
Example: 20 x 15
Operation: Align “20” on the outer scale with “10” on the inner scale.
Then, “15” on the inner scale corresponds to “30” on the outer scale.
Take into account the position of the decimal point and add one zero to
obtain 300.
Note that with the scales of this watch, the position of the decimal point
cannot be obtained.
■ DIVISION
Example: 250/20
Operation: Align “25” on the outer scale with “20” on the inner scale.
Then, “10” on the inner scale corresponds to “12,5” on the outer scale.
Take into account the position of the decimal point to obtain 12.5.

Crystal Display Panels E and F. They change dependent on which mode
the watch is in.

3. WHEN TRAVELLING THROUGH TIME ZONES
Example: Travelling from London to New York.
■ Watch should be in Time mode.
■ Analogue hands show London time.
Use Buttons TR or BL to select New York time in Digital Display (NYC).
■ Press TR and BL simultaneously; the hands will automatically change to
New York time and the Digital Display will show London time (LON).
■ To change back, press TR and BL simultaneously again.
SETTING THE ALARM: AL-1, AL-2, AL-3
These three alarms are independent, however the setting programme is
the same for all three. The alarm is set on the Digital Display D and can
be set for any time in a particular city. The alarm will sound when the Set
Time in the selected city is reached, regardless of which time zones are
currently displayed, on either the analogue hands or Digital Display.
■ Press BR to select either AL-1, AL-2, or AL-3 on Dial C.
■ Press TR or BL to select city required in Digital Display.
■ Gently pull BR out; the word “ON” will flash on the Digital Display.
■ Press BL to determine whether alarm setting is “ON”, or “OFF”.
■ Press TR again and the hours will flash.
Press BL to advance hours to the required setting.
IMPORTANT Ensure you have chosen a.m. or p.m. correctly:
this is indicated under the hour digits.
■ Press TR again and the minutes will flash.
■ Press BL to advance to the required setting.
■ If the correct setting has been made: Press the BR Button in.
■ When the alarm is sounding, it can be instantly silenced
by pressing any button.
NOTE Each alarm has its own individual tone, for easy identification.
CITY DISPLAY SELECTION: SET
This function allows you to reduce the number of cities displayed,
in order to access quickly the cities used most frequently, and set
that city to summer time.
■ Press BR button to select SET on Dial C.
■ Press TR or BL, to select city to be deleted.
■ Gently pull BR out. All the digits in Display D will flash.
■ To delete City Display, press TL. The word “SET” will change to “OFF”.
■ To set summer time, press BL.
The word “ON” or “OFF” will appear against the “SUMMER” indictor;
select as required.
To select the next city, press TR.
Once you have deleted the cities, press BR back in.
■ FUEL CONSUMPTION
Example: Obtain the fuel consumption required for a flight when the fuel
consumption is 250 gallons per hour and the flight time is 6 hours.
Answer: Align “25” on the outer scale with the SPEED INDEX on the inner
scale. Then, “6:00” on the inner scale (time scale) corresponds to “15” on
the outer scale. Thus, the fuel consumption is 1,500 gallons.
■ ESTIMATED FLIGHT TIME
Example: Obtain the estimated flight time when the fuel consumption is
220 gallons per hour and the aircraft has 550 gallons of fuel.
Answer: Align “22” on the outer scale with the SPEED INDEX on the inner
scale. Then, “55” on the outer scale corresponds to “2:30” on the inner
scale. Thus, the estimated flight time is 2 hours and 30 minutes.
■ DIFFERENCE IN ALTITUDE
The difference in altitude can be obtained from the rate of descent of the
descent time.
Operation: Obtain the difference in altitude when the aircraft continues
descending for 23 minutes at a rate of 250 feet per minute.
Answer: Align “25” on the outer scale with “10” on the inner scale. Then
“23” on the inner scale corresponds to “57.5” on the outer scale.
Thus, the difference in altitude is 5,750 feet.
■ PROPORTION
Example: 30/20 = 60/x
Operation: Align “30” on the outer scale with “20” on the inner scale.
Then, “60” on the outer scale corresponds to “40” on the inner scale
this point, the proportion for every value on the inner and outer
scales is 30/20.
■ SQUARE FOOT
Example: Square root of 225
Operation: Turn the outer scale slowly and find a value that corres-
ponds to both “22.5” on the outer scale and “10” on the inner scale. In
this example, “22.5” on the outer scale corresponds to “15” on the inner
scale, and “10” on the inner scale corresponds to “15” on the outer
scale. Thus, the answer is 15.
