Clarificarea textului

 Apoi l-a scos afară şi i-a zis: "Priveşte la cer şi numără stelele, de le poţi număra!" Şi a adăugat:
"Atât de mulţi vor fi urmaşii tăi!"1
 Și l-a scos afară și i-a zis: „Privește la cer și numără stelele, de le poți număra!”: Și i-a zis:
„Așa v-a fi seminția ta!”2
 Și l-au scos pre el afară și au zis lui: „Caută la ceriu și numără stealele, de le vei putea număra
pre eale”. Și au zis lui: „Așea va fi sămânța ta”.3
 Și-l scoase pre dânsul afară și-i zise lui: „Caută dară în ceriu și numără stealele, de vei putea
număra pre eale!” Si zise: „Așa va fi seminția ta!”.4
 Apoi l-a dus afară şi i-a spus: „Uită-te la cer şi numără stelele, dacă poţi! Atât de numeroşi vor
fi urmaşii tăi!” a continuat El.5
Chiar dacă limba noastră a fost și este într-un proces continu de dezvoltare nu putem vorbii de o
fluctuație de sens în aceste ediții ale Sfintei Scripturi, singurele discrepanțe apar din punct de vedere
morfologic și sintactic, iar acestea se datorează faptului că orice limbă este un organism viu, care se află
într-un proces continu transformare, după cum aminteam mai sus.. De aici putem trage concluzia că
traducătorii acestui pasaj au ajuns la un consens în ceea ce privește conținutul formal și ideologic al
versetului 5 din Facere, capitolul 15.

Contextul

Avram răspunde chemării Domnului și pleacă din Haran împreună Saraai femeia sa și cu toți oamenii pe
care-i aveau în Haran și pleacă în Canan. Avram îl scapă pe Lot, rudenia sa care în urma unor bătălii este
luat în robie. Avram primește binecuvântare de la Melhisedec „acesta este preotul Dumnezeului celui
Preaînalt”(Fac.14,18) , căruia îi dă zeciuială din toate.

Domnul se arată în vis lui Avram zicându-i că răsplata lui va fi foarte mare, iar Avram îndoindu-se
oarecum, răspunde Domnului zicând: „Stăpâne Doamne ce ai să-mi dai? Că iată, eu am să mor fără copii
și cârmuitor in casa mea este Eliazar din Damasc.”(Fac.15,2). Domnul făgăduiește că moștenitor va fi
acela care va răsări din coapsele lui iar pentru a înțelege cât mai bine planul lui Dumnezeu cu el îi zice

să iasă afară, să privească cerul și să numere stelele cerului spunându-i că asemenea acestora va fi și
numărul urmașilior lui și îndată Avram crede și i se socotește lui ca dreptate. Dumnezeu cere jertfă lui
Avram, deasemenea că urmași lui vor fi în robie 400 de ani după care El îi va scăpa și vor ieși de acolo
cu avere multă, iar lui Avram îi zice că va petrece la părinții lui unde v-a fi înmormântat la bătrânețe.

Look now toward heaven - It appears that this whole transaction took place in the evening; see on
Genesis 13:14; (note). Abram had either two visions, that recorded in Genesis 15:1, and that in Genesis
15:12, etc.; or what is mentioned in the beginning of this chapter is a part of the occurrences which
took place after the sacrifice mentioned Genesis 15:9, etc.: but it is more likely that there was a vision
of that kind already described, and afterwards a second, in which he received the revelation
mentioned Genesis 15:13-16. After the first vision he is brought forth abroad to see if he can number
the stars; and as he finds this impossible, he is assured that as they are to him innumerable, so shall his
posterity be; and that all should spring from one who should proceed from his own bowels - one who
should be his own legitimate child.

Coffman's Commentaries on the Bible

"And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and number the stars, if thou
be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be."

"Number the stars ..." Previously, God had promised that Abram's seed would be as "the dust of the
earth"; and the dramatic change here suggests the two Israels that call Abram their father, the fleshly
Israel and the spiritual Israel of God's church. Also, Morris thought it indicated that the redeemed of
both Israels would be active "both on earth and in heaven." The innumerability of the stars is a
scientific truth, there being, in fact, innumerable galaxies, the total number of stars in any one of them
being innumerable, and the question rises as to how such a fact is mentioned so casually. The answer
has to lie in the omniscience of God, the real Author of Genesis.

"So shall thy seed be ..." Seed, of course, has two meanings, being a collective noun, meaning: (1) a
single Seed, or (2) billions of seeds. Both meanings are found in the Scriptures. Here the "seed" refers to
the vast and innumerable company of Abram's physical posterity on earth. However, in Genesis 3:15,
and in Genesis 26:4, "seed" is used restrictively as reference to Jesus Christ only. Some of the scholars
made a big thing out of "seed" usually having the plural meaning, but no scholar on earth, nor all of
them concurrently, have the right to deny or question the "Seed Singular" reference to Jesus Christ in
Genesis 3:15; 26:4, and in the references from Galatians 3:16-19. God used a word with "two" meanings
purposely, and apostolic authority guarantees to us the understanding of the "Seed Singular" as Jesus
Christ.

Genesis 15:5 And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if
thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be. Ver. 5. And he brought him
forth abroad.] Abram having prayed a good part of the day within, is now drawn forth at night to receive
the promise. Pray that ye may joy, saith Christ: [John 16:24] and, if ye will "rejoice evermore," "Pray
without ceasing," saith the apostle. [1 Thessalonians 5:16-17]. If thou be able to number them.] Then
mayest thou number thy posterity; and they, their privileges. It is God only that "telleth the number of
the stars, and calleth them all by their names". [Psalms 147:4] No man can number them. [Jeremiah
33:22] And yet Aratus and Eudoxus vainly vaunted, saith St Augustine, (a) that they had cast up the
stars, and could call them all by their names.

Barnes' Notes on the Bible

The Lord reiterates the promise concerning the seed. As he had commanded him to view the land, and
see in its dust the emblem of the multitude that would spring from him, so now, with a sublime
simplicity of practical illustration, he brings him forth to contemplate the stars, and challenges him to
tell their number, if he can; adding, "So shall thy seed be." He that made all these out of nothing, by the
word of his power, is able to fulfill his promise, and multiply the seed of Abram and Sarai. Here, we
perceive, the vision does not interfere with the notice of the sensible world, so far as is necessary Daniel
10:7; John 12:29.

William Mac Donald- Moștenitorul promis a lui Avram.

Neavând copii Avram s-a temut că slujitorul său Eliezer din Damasc îi va fi urmaș fiindcă așa era legea
în vremea aceea, dar Dumnezeu i-a promis un fiu și urmași muneroși ca telele de pe cer. Omenește
vorbind lucrul acesta era imposibil, fiindcă soției lui îi trecuse vremea de când putea naște copii, dar
Avram a crezut în promisiunea lui Dumnezeu și Dumnezeu l-a declarat neprihănit. Adevărul justificării
prin credința enunțat aici și se repetă în Rom. 4,3; Gal. 3,6; Iv 2,23; Gen. 3,16. Dumnezeu îi promisese
urmași numeroși ca pulberea pământului, iar aici 15,5 ca stelele, pulberea ilustrează posteritatea naturală
a lui Avram- cei care sunt evrei din naștere. Stelele îi simbolizează pe urmașii spirituali aceia care sunt
îndreptățiți prin credință.7

Nicolae Ursa- Comentariu la Facere.

După aceea fost-a-n vedenie cuvântului Domnului către Avram și a zis: „ Nu te teme Avrame; Eu sunt
scutul tău și răsplata ta va fi foarte mare!”. Credința lui Avram este pusă la încercare prin aceea că
promisiunile făcute întârzie să se împlinească. Ele vor fi reînnoite și pecetluite printr-o alianță. După
Ioan Gură de Aur, „ Avram e vrednic să primeascărevelația divină pentru că a refuzat darurile regelui
Sodomei în 14,23.8Cuvântul Domnului e auzit de data aceasta, in vis, fapt ce amintește de dreptul Iosif
către care toate arătările s-au făcut în vis. Noapte sugerează și un moment de îndoială în sufletul
Patriarhului, îndoială ce reise din răspunsul lui Avram:„ Stăpâne oare ce-mi vei da? Că iată eu mă duc
fără să am copil....”. Ioan Gură de Aur completează verbul în sens filosofic: Avram ca un adevărat
înțelept, știe că moarte este o plecare, o desprindere, o eliberare.„ Și a zis Avram: De vreme ce nu mi –ai
dat urmași, iată că sluga mea mă va moșteni!”. Eliezer din Damasc era primul dintre slujitorii lui Avram,
în caz că stăpânul murea fără urmași el devenea moștenitor. Sf Chiril al Alexandriei crede că aici ar fi
vorba despre Ismael, dar acela încă nu se născuse.... Și îndată a fost cuvîntul Domnului către el și a zis:
„Nu acela te va moșteni, ci acela ce va răsări din coapsele tale acela te va moșteni”.Și l-a scos afară și
i-a zis: „Privește la cer şi numără stelele, dacă le poţi număra! și i-a zis: Așa va fi seminția ta! Și Avram
i-a crezut lui Dumnezeu si i s-a socotit aceasta dreptate”. Ca drepate ce presupune echitatea dintre doua
părți, în cazul de față Avram și Iahve. Întreaga gândire a israeliților este centrată pe ideea alianței cu
Dumnezeu, dreptatea însemaând în acest caz atitudinea conformă acestei alianțe, atât a părți divine, cât
și a celei umane. Credința lui Avram este împlinireaunei promisiuni omenește nerealizabilă. Iahve îi
recunoaște meritul acela a unui comportament conform voinței saleși supus judecății Dumnezeului celui
drept.9

Concluzie

Capitolul 15 se află în strânsă legatură cu finalul capitolului 14. Fiindcă patriarhul a refuzat răsplata
regelui Sodomei, Domnul i-a spus: „ Avrame nu te teme, Eu sunt scutul și răsplata ta va fi forte mare!”.
Așadar Domnul încearcă să-l încurajeze să l întărească pe Avram știind că se află căzut într-o mare
deznădejde, temându-se reproșează Domnului că neavând copii întreagă averea sa va rămâne slugii sale
Eliezer din Damasc, Avram neputându-se bucura de nasterea de fii întrucât trecuse vremea Sarei de a da
naștere. Un fapt foarte important premergător marii făgăduințe are loc când Domnul îl cheamă afară
spunându-i să privească stelele cerului de le poate număra, făgăduindu-i ca asemenea va fi și numărul
urmașilor lui. Avram se arată credincios celor făgăduite de Domnul și i se socotește lui ca dreptate după
cum zice Scriptura. De aici putem și noi lua exemplu de credință puternică în Dumnezeu împlinitoare de
dorințe.

Mulţi suntem încercaţi aşa cum a fost şi Avram. Dar nu auzim glasul lui Dumnezeu vorbind direct din
ceruri, însă El ne cheamă prin învăţăturile cuvântului Său şi evenimentele providenţei Sale. Dumnezeu
are o lucrare cu fiecare dintre noi, iar cel mai important lucru este credința puternică în ajutorul lui
Dumnezeu și în făgăduința facută de El, care se v-a împlini dar poate nu în viitorul imediat apropiat și
aici putem vorbi și despre o altă virtute mare aceea a răbdării.
