CRITICAL THINKING
AN ARGUMENT FOR SUSTAINED CONTENT

This article mentions how the “ critical thinking “develops the cognitive
psychology and transformative methodology and also as a substitution for
sustained content study .
Sustained content study is recommended because :it allows students to
correct their information without sth they are less able to ask , evaluate what
they have learned , to become familiar with what the conventions of a
discipline .

In order to succeed at the university and in today’s workplace, and to under-

stand the economic factors that affect student’s lives, ESL students must be
able to identify the central points and methodology of a range of material,
questions and evaluate them and recognize persuasive responses in English .

This argument neither supports nor detracts from other approaches to critical
thinking development but rather suggests that sustained content study is
useful. It proposes that teachers pursue a subject long enough (a half to full
semester) to allow for the synthesis, questioning and evaluation of
information, the study of rhetorical conventions of a genre, and a recycling of
those conventions into student writing so that students may practice them
“hands-on” and see their advantages and limitations.
